Scott Eastwood Had An Interesting Reaction To His Father Rejecting Him From An Iconic Movie
Clint Eastwood opted for another actor over his son Scott Eastwood in a highly successful film, steering away from nepotism and ensuring that Scott Eastwood earned his place in Hollywood.
While speaking to The Independent, Scott Eastwood revealed that despite auditioning for a substantial role in Flags of Our Fathers, he did not secure it. However, Clint Eastwood gave him a chance for a smaller part in the film, emphasizing that Scott Eastwood needed to earn his roles through auditions.
“I was 18 years old when I called him and wanted to audition for Flags of Our Fathers. ‘Well, we’ll see. I’ll give you a shot to audition.’ I auditioned for one of the bigger roles in Flags… and that obviously didn’t happen. But I did a good enough job so he hired me to do a couple of lines in the film. That’s how it rolls with him on every project. I’ve auditioned for a lot of the bigger roles in his films and never got them.”
In the case of the Eastwood and Bradley Cooper collaboration, American Sniper, Scott Eastwood auditioned for a role but did not secure it. Despite the disappointment, missing out on American Sniper actually proved beneficial for Scott Eastwood, as it freed him up to take on the romantic film The Longest Ride.
“I auditioned for American Sniper and didn’t get a role,” he recalled. “But it was actually perfect because it was around the time this film was gearing up so it was maybe a better thing. I would have loved to have been part of American Sniper but then I wouldn’t have the opportunity to do this film.”
Reflecting on the experience, he expressed gratitude for the way things unfolded, acknowledging that while he would have loved to be a part of American Sniper, the opportunity to work on The Longest Ride presented a positive turn of events.
Clint Eastwood Didn’t Initially Want To Do One Of His Best Movies Ever
In the mid-1960s, Clint Eastwood, already a prominent figure in the Western genre, was reluctant to join The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, which featured two established actors, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef. Eastwood was dissatisfied with the distribution of dialogue and the disparity in pay.
However, the producers were keen to have him on board and enticed him with a $250,000 salary, 10% of the profits, and a new Ferrari 275 GTB. With this offer, Eastwood accepted the role, marking a pivotal moment in his career and the rest is obviously history.
