Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has a new project lined up, despite fans still waiting for the end of the Dutton family drama.

Yellowstone fans are eager to find out how it ends, meanwhile Taylor Sheridan is keeping himself busy elsewhere.

The Paramount Network series returned for the first half of its fifth and final series in May 2023 but hasn’t been seen since, perhaps partly to the Hollywood actors and writers’ strikes last year.

Nevertheless, shooting for the remaining episodes will not begin until late spring 2024 and won’t be out until November so viewers are having to wait a lot longer than expected.

But Sheridan hasn’t let the grass grow as he has already taken on a new project, with his production company Bosque Ranch optioning the historical book Empire of the Summer Moon by SC Gwynne.

It isn’t known if it will be a film or a TV series but the Yellowstone mastermind will write, direct and produce alongside Bosque Ranch’s Jenny Wood.

When the news came out, author Gwynne shared their delight, writing: “I can’t think of anyone better qualified to bring Empire of the Summer Moon to the screen than Taylor Sheridan.

“He has a deep and nuanced understanding of both the myth and reality of the Old West. I am thrilled that he is undertaking this project.”

The book tells the tale of the rise and fall of the Indian tribe the Comanches, as well as the story of Cynthia Ann Parker and her half-white son Quanah who became the last chief of the tribe.

While many are excited to see what he does with the real-life story, others are questioning why Sheridan is taking on such a heavy workload.

Posting on Reddit, one viewer wrote: “Am I the only one who thinks it would be nice if he’d stop taking on more projects until he wraps up some of the things he’s already working on?”

Another agreed: “Our boy is stretching himself thin with all these projects lately.”

While another questioned the quality of his work, stating: “He may be a good writer, when he’s able to sit down and focus on a project.

“But any good writer will have their quality tank when they are spread so thin across that many projects.”

On top of the ongoing original Yellowstone drama, Sheridan decided to turn it into a franchise with spin-off shows 1883 and 1923, with 1944, 2024 and 666 reportedly in the works.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves reached its conclusion in December 2023 and Mayor of Kingstown season three is expected to come out in the summer of 2024.

So Sheridan has got to keep a lot of plates spinning if he’s going to get all of these shows out in a timely fashion and up to scratch for fans.

Yellowstone season 5 part 2 is expected to come out in November 2024 on Paramount Network.
