When the team learns what other departments do at NCIS headquarters, Kasie becomes involved in a case. Find out what happened in our recap.
Have you ever wondered what other departments are doing at NCIS headquarters while the team is solving crimes? Well, the third episode of season 21, “Lifeline,” did just that! Thanks to a suggestion from Parker, the team got to experience what it was like working in other departments.
While Knight worked in maintenance, Torres was in accounting, and McGee went with the mechanics, Kasie got to learn what it was like working in dispatch. But when a disturbing call came in asking for help, it rattled her when she thought she heard a murder.
Wanting to see the case through, Kasie followed the agents as they tracked down the caller, former NCIS agent Eric Webb, who went to work for the CIA. He was “found” at a safe house but as it turned out, he had planted his wallet on a body to escape. He felt someone was after him and that there was a leak at the agency.
The team learned more about Webb through a former CIA agent, Harlan, who worked with him on a case in Spain. It involved a bombing, which occurred despite their attempts to stop it.
As Kasie got to work in speaking with Webb and gaining his trust, the team were able to figure out that the bodies at the crime scene included one who had ties to the Chechen mob. Clearly he was a gun for hire. Evidence would soon lead them to Peter Turso, who built and sold illegal weapons. However, they learned that the weapon he recently sold was a bomb, and after he was killed, the parts for said bomb went missing.
There’s a twist when it looked like Eric was actually responsible for the murders and was planning another attack. However, Eric took Kasie in order to prove to her he wasn’t the bomber. A cigarette had been found at one of the crime scenes and he thought he knew who the killer was.
Eric was proven correct and that the killer was actually Harlan. He had a girlfriend in Spain who was a victim of the bombing and he wanted revenge on the CIA before he died of cancer.
All in all, this episode allowed Kasie to shine in an area other than being in the lab. We got to see the team having fun and learn more about the people who were part of NCIS headquarters. It’s not often that you get a behind-the-scenes look into what goes on besides solving cases. Especially after such a sad episode the previous week, it was nice to have a lighthearted episode to follow it.
