Michael Weatherly may have teased a possible Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David on-screen reunion on the heels of his surprising NCIS season 21 return.
Michael Weatherly may have teased a potential on-screen reunion between Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David after his unexpected NCIS season 21 cameo. After almost a decade, the actor stepped back into the shoes of his iconic “Very Special Agent” character for Ducky’s tribute episode. DiNozzo’s appearance happens at the end of NCIS season 21, episode 2, “The Stories We Leave Behind,” but it leaves the door open for more visits from him.
Beyond that, however, Weatherly’s recent comment on X (formerly Twitter) is fueling theories that an on-screen NCIS reunion between Ziva and DiNozzo may be in the works. Check out his post below:
I hope whatever work you have in progress, involves a certain Chilean. 😉 I miss you guys onscreen! Miss the chemistry and magic you both create. ❤

Responding to a fan who hopes that the two reunite and saying “miss the chemistry and magic you both create,” Weatherly responds with a cryptic “the universe works in mysterious ways…” Although not a confirmation, it hints at a reunion.
Why NCIS DiNozzo and Ziva Still Need To Reunite On-Screen
Cote de Pablo was a subsequent addition to NCIS, brought in as a replacement for Sasha Alexander’s Caitlin Todd who was unexpectedly killed at the end of season 2. A Mossad agent working with Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Ziva was a very capable agent. From the get-go, her chemistry with DiNozzo was apparent, but NCIS took a long time to develop their romance, with the pair even being with other people before expressing their feelings towards each other. Unfortunately, Ziva left in NCIS season 11 — a few seasons before Dinozzo did.
The idea is that Ziva and DiNozzo have already reunited and are currently raising their daughter together. Weatherly’s NCIS season 21 cameo didn’t reference his family, further piquing the interest of long-time viewers who followed their story development. Considering how open-ended the show left their relationship after Ziva left, the police procedural needs to make up for years of not resolving their romance by finally bringing both of them together for a joint appearance. Additionally, they may convince the retired Gibbs in Alaska to come back and meet them back home.
Ideally, all of them would have been at Ducky’s farewell episode. Sadly, the logistics of bringing all of them together for a single episode proved too difficult to accomplish. In any case, Ziva and Gibbs’ absence during Ducky’s tribute can be a blessing in disguise, as NCIS can bring them together for a proper case moving forward. Given Weatherly’s recent sentiment about wanting to revisit DiNozzo, it’s safe to say that it wouldn’t be difficult to recruit him as well.
