Fire Country star Max Thieriot explains why Bode didn’t crash Gabriela’s wedding in the season 2 finale. Recent episodes of the CBS drama focused on Bode’s return to Three Rock after months in prison and his commitment to raising Genevieve, while learning that he’s not her biological father. Another important storyline in Fire Country season 2 remained the relationship between Thieriot’s character and Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila),which diminished as a result of Bode’s sentence and Gabriela’s engagement to Diego (Rafael de la Fuente). During the finale, Bode arrived at their ceremony, encouraged to win Gabriela back, but eventually left.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Thieriot discussed Gabriela’s wedding and why Bode decided to leave instead of acting on his feelings. He explained that Manny’s (Kevin Alejandro) advice likely influenced Bode, along with seeing Gabriela in love. Thieriot added that his character suddenly left the church because he was unable to see Gabriela’s marriage become official. Read Thieriot’s comments below:

Probably not. And I think it’s also just what Manny said: She’s really happy. That’s something that really resonates with Bode because all along, all he’s been saying is all he wants for her is her happiness. And so the fact that Manny looks at him in the eyes and says, ‘Bode, she’s really, really happy,’ I think that Bode then, even though it’s tearing him up inside, can’t take that happiness away from her because it is what he wants. And it’s a big change in him. I think Season 1 Bode probably would’ve said, ‘Well, she’s not that happy,’ or… I don’t know. But I don’t think he would’ve stopped.

I think because he couldn’t watch her say ‘I do.’ And I think that he steps out of the church and you see him sort of take a breath and I think it’s like he’s trying to close this door. It’s him taking in everything that he’s seen and really trying to move on. And he sees his uncle and he knows, this is what I need, this is what I need to move on. ”

What Fire Country’s Wedding Means For Bode & Gabriela in Season 3
Will They Ever Get Back Together?

Fire Country viewers may be disappointed that Bode and Gabriela’s romance never progressed. Despite some heartfelt moments in season 2, including their kiss in “No Future, No Consequences” and Bode’s acknowledgment of regret, Gabriela and Diego’s wedding nearly went as planned (Manny was arrested part-way through). Earlier in the season, Roberta (Paola Núñez) and other characters appeared to support a potential reunion, but Thieriot’s comments about Bode and his growth suggest the relationship could be over.

Considering how momentary their relationship was, and that Bode made an appearance at Gabriela’s wedding, it’s hard to imagine the show abandoning that storyline. It’s worth noting that Gabriela spotted Thieriot’s character during the ceremony, and looked saddened by his immediate absence. They seem to have feelings for each other, but because of Gabriela’s marriage and Bode’s sentence having just ended, Fire Country season 3 may contain less romantic development, should they focus on their respective futures.

While it’s worth wondering what might have occurred, had Bode crashed the wedding, his decision to leave demonstrates how much he cares. Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see if he and Gabriela rekindle their romance in Fire Country season 3 or beyond, and how they continue to interact in the meantime.
