The UK Sun reported this weekend that Tom Cruise has a new girlfriend. The alleged new girlfriend apparently had no idea she was dating Tom Cruise. And that’s not because she was abducted into a cult but because evidently the Sun was making up the story.
According to their report, Tom met musician Victoria Canal at Glastonbury where she performed with Coldplay. Since then they’ve supposedly been “inseparable”, with Tom bringing her to set while he’s shooting and giving her rides on his helicopter. Victoria has posted photos of Tom on her Instagram a couple of times, this seems to be where the Sun is taking their liberties. She’s beautiful and talented and Tom is single and all of that combined made for easy fiction. After a full day of speculation, Victoria put an end to it.

Basically she’s calling him an elder, which is about as unromantic as it gets. But hilariously “elder” might be why people were so willing to believe it. Victoria is 25 years old, Tom is 62. And we’ve been so accustomed to these age gaps with the famous and the wealthy, it’s like we have to actively push back against the normalisation of it. So that it’s almost refreshing to hear from a young woman telling us that she thinks of that man, though he’s a movie star, like her uncle, another old on a list of olds who have been guiding her.
Tom meanwhile was seen at the helipad with co-star Pom Klementieff the other day. He’s still working on Mission: Impossible 8. And he’s also, reportedly, working on some kind of batsh-t stunt for the Olympics closing ceremony. As I said last week, I’m wondering when he’ll be able to rehearse this and how they’ll be able to lock it down. If, that is, he’s performing it at all. They said there might be a possibility of using a double. And it’s wild at this point in his career that Tom Cruise using a double would be the actual shock instead of him doing the stunt himself.
