The actor previously confirmed that he will not appear in the second half of season five of ‘Yellowstone.’

Kevin Costner’s time as John Dutton might be over, but as far as the Oscar winner is concerned, the story of the Yellowstone patriarch isn’t quite finished.

Speaking with ET ahead of HISTORY Channel’s HISTORYTalks event on Saturday, Costner shared a message to fans of the series as they prepare to welcome the show back without him.

“That’s been a wonderful part of my life… making Yellowstone,” he told ET’s Deidre Behar. “And who knows, some things have a way of circling back. I haven’t seen that dust trail coming towards me, but I’ve always been open to what I started. Five seasons was a lot for us to do, and I think that that story is not finished. Obviously it can go on. I have children… we can make the story about them.”

It’s a vague statement, but it seems likely that Costner is referring to recent reports that “negotiations are underway” for a sixth season of the Taylor Sheridan hit starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.

According to Deadline, “the deals are not done,” but show runners intend for Yellowstone’s story to continue past the second half of season five, which will finally wrap things up for Costner’s character.

Paramount initially announced its decision to end the show with the second half of season five due to disagreements over shooting schedules with Costner. Sheridan previously revealed that Costner’s premature exit from the juggernaut series “truncates the closure of his character.”

While Costner previously confirmed that he would not be returning to Yellowstone, anything is possible in the sprawling Sheridanverse.

The second half of Yellowstone season five returns to Paramount on November 10.
