Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly talks about her future on the show, addressing whether she’ll be back in the role of Beth Dutton. It has been almost two years since the hit Western drama has debuted a new episode. A lot has changed for the franchise in that time, with Kevin Costner officially exiting the central role of John Dutton, not to mention more spinoffs of the Taylor Sheridan series getting announced. But what happens to the main series after Yellowstone season 5 part 2 remains unclear.
In an interview with The New York Times to discuss Yellowstone season 5 part 2, which premieres Sunday, November 10 at 8 PM ET on the Paramount Network, Reilly talks about what was next for her after the upcoming episodes conclude their run. Although the actor is open to continuing as Beth Dutton, she described the show’s potential future as a “a new beginning.” In the quote below, however, she also expresses some trepidation about continuing in the role:
If there is a new beginning, it’s a new beginning. I’m like, all right, let’s get up and put our big girl pants on.
It’s a big energy. That’s not something in my body that I need. I love her, but I’m very happy to let her disappear.
What Reilly’s Comments Mean For Yellowstone
The Speculation Continues
The fallout from Costner’s exit looms over Yellowstone, with a starry spinoff going through a few potential forms before settling on the title of The Madison. Led by Michelle Pfeiffer, the three-time Oscar nominee will be joined by Kurt Russell, Patrick J. Adams, Beau Garrett, and Matthew Fox, among others, to tell the story of a New York family in Montana.
The status of Yellowstone season 6 is less immediately clear. Reports have detailed that talks are underway for Reilly and co-star Cole Hauser to make their way back as the fan-favorite couple of Beth and Rip, but that is not confirmed. It could be the case that top executives want to keep the focus on season 5’s return and not preemptively spoil any outcomes. If that is the directive, it could be why the cast and crew aren’t directly commenting on the series’ future.
Our Take On Reilly’s Comments
There’s A Lot For Yellowstone To Work Through
Yellowstone season 5 part 1 ended with a major showdown between siblings Beth and Jamie Dutton, with deadly overtones. It makes sense, then, that those involved with the Western may not be eager to spill the beans on what happens next. With the story of the remaining episodes being kept tightly under wraps, it is no surprise that what happens after the show ends is also being kept secret. More clarity about the Paramount hit will likely be reached once this stage of the franchise is over.
