The episode starts with the doctors saying that Monty is critical and needs a heart transplant, but soon after, his aorta ruptures, and he dies. This automatically means a promotion for Tommy, and he is made the new president of M-Tex.

After seeing Monty’s fate, Tommy is hesitant about his promotion. He advises Cami to sell the company so that she can liquidate its assets, which will be enough for her generations to come. But Cami disagrees with this decision as she says that Monty would not want this, as she will continue the company.

Tommy reluctantly agrees and starts looking into Monty’s pending deals, but he says that Cami and Alan should always be present with him as board members.

In addition, he also brings back Rebecca as the company’s negotiator. While she is hesitant about working for an oil company and doesn’t trust Tommy, she stays.

Tommy learns that Gallino wants to co-exist with the oil companies. When Tommy says that he would combine all the oil companies to take the cartel down, Gallino reminds him that they own all the drillable lands in Texas, after which Tommy strikes a deal with him.

Tommy saw a coyote getting shot in the show’s penultimate episode, hinting that Tommy has compromised on his freedom and might have to step in as Monty’s replacement in M-Tex.

In the final moments of episode 10, Tommy again sees a coyote and tells him “You’d better run, buddy, they kill coyotes around here.” which hints that Tommy is warning himself about all the responsibilities that he has taken upon himself in the end of the show’s finale.

Not only is he now M-Tex’s president, but he has also struck a deal with the cartel. In addition, when Angela asked him about his bruised face the next morning, he couldn’t tell her, hinting that there would be distance between his professional and personal lives, which would cause problems for him in season 2.
