Landman Fans Divided Over Season 1 Finale That Featured SHOCK Surprise Cameo By A-List Movie Star

Paramount Plus’ Landman brought its first season to a close with the finale on Sunday night, and fans had many strong reactions.

The series centers on Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), the ‘landman’ for a fictional Texas oil company called M Tex, run by Monty Miller (Jon Hamm).

The show from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan follows Tommy as he tries to balance both his volatile work life in an increasingly dangerous profession with his home life with fiery ex Angela (Ali Larter), daughter Ainsley (Angela Randolph) and son Cooper (Jacob Lofland).

Landman was proven to be a hit early on, when Paramount Plus announced that that 14.9 million households watched through its first four weeks, the biggest debut in the streaming service’s history.

While many fans are waiting on a Season 2 announcement, the finale sets up a possible second season in a very intriguing way.

The end of the finale introduces a surprising new character, and while many fans gushed online about the first season, just as many seemed underwhelmed as well.

All season long, Tommy has been at odds with a Mexican drug cartel, with the opening images of the series showing him tied up and trying to negotiate an oil land lease with a sack over his head.

While cooler heads ultimately prevailed, local drug kingpin Jimenez (Alex Meraz) ultimately had enough with Tommy and forcibly took him from his car, torturing him at a secret location with the intent to kill him.

Before he could do so, Jimenez’s crew was taken out one by one, as the mystery assailant was ultimately revealed to be Jimenez’s cartel boss Galino, played by Oscar-nominated actor Andy Garcia.

While Tommy was dealing with aggression from Jimenez’s crew all season long, Galino ultimately realized that they both had to co-exist peacefully.

They ultimately came to an understanding, with Galino even giving Tommy a heads up before the cops arrived.

This dynamic will certainly be an interesting one to be explored in a second season, if Paramount Plus officially renews the show.

It’s also interesting because Tommy has been elevated to president of the M Tex oil company after Monty was incapacitated by his fifth heart attack… and it’s strongly hinted in the finale’s final moments that he died from that as well.

Fans did not hestitate to share their thoughts online about Andy Garcia’s surprise cameo and the season as a whole.

Still, others were not as impressed, like Randy Garcia (@RanSavage89), who said, ‘I dont know why I am watching. I think it’s one of those where you just want to see how it ends, but i dont feel like this show should have a season 2. The idea was great, the actual storyline, not so much. Solid 5/6 out of 10.’

@Kev_Bik added, ‘Landman would be so much better without the two blondes. #fact everytime the storyline heads their way I thank God for fast forward,’ referring to Angela and Ainsley.

@IAmSnazzyDaisy added, ‘S01 finale gives us a picture of what to expect in S02 but overall, it’s underwhelming. So much screen time is wasted on the strip club, Ainsley/Ryder & Ariana going down a memory lane + sorting thru Elvio’s belongings. FFS.’

@_JustSlim_ added, ‘The ending to #Landman finale was a bit anticlimactic..’

Now that the season has come to a close, it remains to be seen when Paramount Plus will confirm the fate of Landman.
