There’s not much longer to wait Yellowstone fans as the long-awaited second series of 1923 is just weeks away.
The spin-off of the hugely popular neo-western show is fronted by Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford and has proven to be a hit with viewers.
Despite this, news broke in June 2024 that season two will be the final series of 1923 so we’re preparing for quite the rollercoaster as we wrap up the prequel story.
That said, before Helen and co hang up their bullwhips for good, we still have one more season to get through and the good news is that it’ll be here before we know it.
For the uninitiated, in 1923 we meet an earlier generation of Taylor Sheridan’s Dutton family as they establish their roots in the west of America.
Ahead of season two’s release on February 23, Paramount + shared a full trailer for the series and it does not disappoint.
The clip shows Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara (Helen Mirren) trying to protect the ranch while ‘war hero’ Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) tries his best to cross the country and make it home.
A group of wealthy men in suits say they’re planning to make Montana a playground for the elite before the video changes to Jacob declaring ‘he wants to take this place from us’.
Cara is later heard saying she hopes Spencer can make it home and that ‘of all the things I’ve had to do for this ranch, this takes the cake’ while loading up her shotgun and leaning out a window.
A teaser for what to expect in season two reads: ‘A cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob and Cara back at Dutton ranch.
‘With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana. Meanwhile, Alexandra sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love.’
Fans loved the first look at season two, with many saying they hope that Spencer makes it home in the first few episodes and they’re not left waiting until the end for a reunion.
Brandon previously told the Hollywood Reporter that the show will end after season two. He said: ‘No, no, it’s bookend. [The series is] still limited, but I think of it as one piece – there’s just a split in the middle, but it’s all one piece. It will conclude.’
When the second season was originally announced, it was planned that the series would return to Butte, Montana, where the first outing was filmed, but it ended up being shot in Austin, Texas.
It is reported that both Helen and Harrison were happy to be back for a second season. Helen told Deadline it was ‘very happy news as far as I was concerned.’
She said: ‘I’m fascinated to see where Cara is going to go. Taylor [Sheridan – the show’s creator] did say she is very much of her era, she’s looking after the house. That is what her job is. But then he said, ‘Wait, things are going to happen.’ So we’ll see.’
Season 2 of 1923 is streaming February 23 on Paramount+
