We need to know about Sonny, Lois, and Nina!
Soaps are supposed to leave viewers wondering. But we’re supposed to be on the edge of our seats, wondering what happens next; not scratching out heads wondering what is happening at all. Currently, General Hospital is doing that second thing. Here are three questions they need to answer if they expect us to stay invested in their stories:
Rent Control
We know housing prices are out of control, especially in New York, but was the Quartermaine mansion the only place Lois (Rena Sofer) could think to send Gio (Giovanni Mazzo)? Especially when she was determined to keep the secret that Gio is Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) and Dante’s (Dominic Zapronga) secret child? You know what one of the tricks to keeping a secret is? NOT LETTING THE PERSON YOU ARE KEEPING A SECRET FROM CROSS PATHS WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED SECRET. Gio is an adult. It’s not like he’s a kid who needs a guardian. He could have gone to any university in the world. We hear Julliard is pretty good for musicians. Not to mention all of Europe. What was Lois thinking?
One Stop Shopping
Nina (Cynthia Watros) is dying to break up Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Drew (Cameron Mathison). So much so that she’s willing to team up with Carly (Laura Wright) to do it. Why won’t Nina grab at the magic bullet in her arsenal? All she has to do is tell Willow that Nina also slept with Drew and…ew. Do you think Daughter wants Mother’s hand-me-down’s? Willow will be grossed out, and the problem will be solved. Sure, it will hurt Nina and Willow’s relationship. But they’ve been at odds before. So, it’s nothing new for either of them.
Tell Me Who Are You?
Sonny (Maurice Bernard) is a big, important, paranoid mobster. So, are we supposed to believe that he didn’t run a background check on Natalia (Eva LaRue) once they started hanging out together? Or even before?
As Blaze’s mother, she was in Sonny’s orbit. And anyone who is in Sonny’s orbit is obviously out to get Sonny. He is, after all, the most important person in the universe. Ergo, she needed to be thoroughly investigated. And if Sonny did that, he’d know she was Stillwell’s ex-wife. So either Sonny is a terrible mobster, or he hired terrible people. Either way, he’s not as great as we’re supposed to think he is.
