Bodybuilding icon Arnold Schwarzenegger started acting in 1970. However, he would gain recognition in Hollywood until starring in Stay Hungry (1976). The bodybuilder won a Golden Globe for his efforts in the film. However, during the 1976 Golden Globe Awards, Arnie shared the table with Sylvester Stallone. The two then-rising stars developed a rivalry that day, which lasted over a decade.

Schwarzenegger and Stallone remained bitter rivals throughout their action cinema heydays. However, in the last two decades, the pair have grown to understand one another. Over the years, Sly and Arnie have become great friends. Last year, around Halloween, the actors met, and The Terminator star posted a photo with Sly that nearly broke the internet. This year, Arnie shared the memory, but with a twist.

Last year, the Predator and Rocky stars hung out during Halloween. The former rivals-turned-friends had a great time reminiscing about their glory days. They spoke about their shenanigans and how they would fiercely compete about ridiculous things like who had killed more bad guys on screen. However, the former action heroes in their mid-70s got the opportunity to exercise their competitive spirit.

Arnie suggested that they should carve pumpkins. The 77-year-old Rambo star agreed. However, the two action icons carved the pumpkins with the iconic army knives featured in films like Schwarzenegger’s Commando (1985) and Stallone’s Rambo: First Blood (1982). This year, the bodybuilding legend wished his 25.5 million Instagram followers a happy Halloween by sharing an image with Sly.

“Have a happy Halloween,” the Austrian Oak wrote in his story. However, Arnie had a surprise for fans as he shared a different photograph from their pumpkin carving session. In the image, Schwarzenegger looked at Sly and smiled, while the Cliffhanger star looked at the camera. The two icons will soon appear on camera in the same project.

The Sylvester Stallone documentary

After putting their rivalry to rest, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone starred in multiple projects. After Arnie’s cameo in the Expendables franchise, Sly and Arnie teamed up to co-star in Escape Plan (2013). The film was a huge international hit and showed the aging action icons could still make an impact at the box office.

Recently, Sly appeared on the former Mr. Olympia winner’s Netflix documentary. So Arnie returned the favor. The Rocky Balboa star’s Netflix documentary, Sly, will be released on November 5. The former Governor of California will appear in the documentary to speak about their ever-evolving relationship.
