If you watched Yellowstone, then you know that the love story between Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) is one for the ages. After falling in love in high school, the two go their separate ways before reuniting as adults. They eventually get married at the end of Yellowstone Season 4 and soon after decide to take in a troubled teen named Carter (Finn Little) after viewers learn Beth cannot have kids of her own.
Naturally, fans of the Taylor Sheridan show ate up every second of this saga and were anxiously awaiting their second serving—and now it seems like they might finally get it, thanks to the highly anticipated spinoff show centered around Beth and Rip. Below, we’ve uncovered everything you need to know about the show, including when you can expect to stream it!
What will the Beth and Rip spinoff be about?
This is not the first spinoff to come out of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone franchise: we’ve loved 1883 and 1923, and look forward to 1944. As for Beth and Rip, their spinoff was supposed to be just Season 6 of Yellowstone, but after several negotiations, the cast and crew decided that making a brand-new show would be better.
As of publication, Paramount Network has yet to officially confirm the show, but Reilly did comment the word “True” on an Instagram post asking if it was happening, allowing the world to know that it is, in fact, going to be a reality.
The plot will most likely follow Beth and Rip living on their new ranch, which has 7,000 acres of land where they can continue their ranching duties. It will not be the Dutton Ranch, though, which will mark the first time a Dutton family member has owned and operated a cattle company outside the family’s “home base.”
The show doesn’t have a title yet, and it is unclear if any other Duttons will appear in it.
Will Kevin Costner appear in the spinoff?
Since Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton III, was killed off in Yellowstone following the actor’s departure from the show, it is very unlikely that he will be in the spinoff show.
“Number one, I did it for five years, OK, and I want to work more than once a year,” Costner told the TODAY show at the time of his departure. “We lost an entire year at one point, and I thought, ‘Well, that can’t ever happen again.’ It was well over a year.”
In that same interview, he did say, “I would love to go back under the right circumstances. I think that all of us want to. For me, it really needs to be the right circumstances. There’s always a chance. I love the thing. You’ve got to be really clear about that.”
So, who knows? Maybe John Dutton III will have a small cameo in the Beth and Rip spinoff. This could be done in a flashback sequence where he talks to his daughter and son-in-law. The franchise has done a scene like this before with John’s father, John Dutton II (Dabney Coleman), as well as his late wife, Evelyn (Gretchen Mol), so it’s possible—it’s just a matter of if they decide to do it.
When will the Beth and Rip spinoff premiere?
Since Paramount hasn’t officially announced the show yet, it is unclear when they will start filming or when it will be available to watch. Another thing that has yet to be shared is what the title of it will be, so stay tuned for details on that as well.
