“I’m a farmer looking for a husband…help a bloke out.”
Dave Graham, who Aussies first met back in 2006 on Big Brother has thrown his hat into the ring to become the first gay Farmer on Farmer Wants a Wife Australia.
Dave, who made headlines around the globe when he publically came out during season six of Big Brother, spoke with Chattr, revealing he had been single for over a year and is ready to find love again.
“I’m at that point in my mid-40s where I’m serious about getting a real future plan and doing that with a lifelong partner,” he said. “I’m a farmer looking for a husband. I know the title does suggest you only supply wives, but it’s 2024. Help a bloke out.”
“It is hard [for farmers to meet people],” Dave went on to explain to the publication. “It’s even harder for people like me in my boat [gay farmers], because there are fewer of us, but we’re there. We definitely exist. We’ve always existed.”
“It would be a great opportunity. We now have equal rights to marry us, it would just be a natural, normal part of the show’s flight…Australia’s come a long way since 2006 when I was part of a real change in looking at ourselves and understanding who we are, and that’s the beauty of reality TV, ” Dave added.
The Farmer’s comments come shortly after Yahoo! Lifestyle reported that Farmer Wants A Wife producers had to scrap plans for a gay farmer due to the “lack of interest from the queer community during the application process”.
“There were some pretty strong discussions that Farmer Wants A Wife was going to have a diversity angle for the next season of the popular dating show but those plans have been dropped due to a lack of suitable applicants from both same-sex attracted farmers and potential love interests,” a source told the publication.
“We know that there are strong communities in regional areas, and we would love to have them take part in the long-running show. It is not for lack of trying.
“The audition process is quite extensive, and while there were a handful of options, in the end, the farmers picked were more suitable based on their personalities this time around.”
Farmer Dave, who reappeared on the 2022 season of Big Brother has been single for over a year after ending his engagement to former-partner Shazli.
In January 2023, the pair announced their engagement after less than a year of dating, with David telling Woman’s Day at the time, he had “hit the jackpot.”
Although the couple never publically addressed their split, fans noticed Shazli’s absence from Dave’s Instagram in recent months and New Idea previously reported the reality star was “single and ready to mingle.”
