‘Blue Bloods’ Fan Favorite Donnie Wahlberg Says He’ll Only Return For Spinoff Under 1 Condition

With each passing week, Blue Bloods fans are hoping for a major spinoff announcement or a glimmer of hope that the show will live on in some capacity after the series finale airs. It was revealed that season 14 would be the show’s last, but star Donnie Wahlberg is not entirely opposed to a spinoff of sorts.

“There’s been a lot of talk about spinoffs, about various spinoffs, all types of concepts of spinoffs,” he told TV Insider in an interview published on October 17. “I, for me personally, would say whatever happens next, if it’s done with the spirit of Blue Bloods and done with the care that we tried to put into Blue Bloods every week, it would be something that I would look forward to watching or being a part of either way.”

However, the New Kids on the Block member said that he would only return to reprise his character, Danny Reagan, in a Blue Bloods spinoff under one condition.

“I’ve heard stories of prequels, sequels, you name it,” Donnie, 55, continued. “For me personally, I love the show. I’ve enjoyed working on it for 14 years and like I said, whatever comes next, as long as it has family at its core and the spirit of Blue Bloods, then I’m all for it.”

It’s true that at the core of the show is strong family values, something Tom Selleck and company have stressed throughout the seasons. From Reagan family dinners to candid moments between the characters, it’s something fans have always admired about the show.

Donnie hopes that a spinoff would keep that same energy, though nothing has officially been announced by the network at this point. Fan efforts to save the show from cancellation have also proved to be unsuccessful.

Cast member Abigail Hawk, who portrays, Abigail Baker, did end up revealing some shocking information about some of the ideas that were being thrown around about a potential spinoff. But none of these ideas have come to fruition.

“There was talk of a spinoff happening,” she told Hello! Magazine on October 23. “But if it did happen, so immediately after our series ends, it would have to be not involving the Reagan’s or the NYPD at all. It would have to be set in L.A. or we follow a different family.”

And even though the show’s cast members have been sad to see Blue Bloods come to an end after 10 years, a spinoff might not come right away.

“I don’t want to spin off right now, this is very fresh for me and I’m still grieving because we all wanted to continue, this is not something any of us wanted,” she explained.

“We felt that there was so much more we could continue telling and sharing and creating, but I do think there are certain characters that could continue to have quite an amazing and interesting life beyond the world with the Reagans, and I think Abigail Baker is one of them,” Abigail, 42, added.
