Blue Bloods fans may still be reeling from its unexpected cancellation but Tom Selleck states there is a season 15 on the way.
Blue Bloods is meant to come to an end after its 14th outing, however, its Frank Reagan star has explained why there will be more to come.
The family police drama has been gripping CBS viewers for 14 years with its intense investigations combined with family dynamics, usually explored over their weekly ritual dinners.
So many couldn’t believe it when news broke that Blue Bloods had been cancelled, reportedly due to “budget negotiations and financial strain”.
For months, fans and cast members alike have been openly expressing their upset at the iconic show being forced to end but Tom Selleck has clarified there will be another series.
Blue Bloods was cancelled as season 14 began with the network stating there would be no more following this current series.
However, the Frank Reagan star has clarified that the final eight episodes which will come out later this year, will be season 15 of Blue Bloods, rather than part two of series 14.
He explained to Country Living: “They announced this was gonna be our last season.
“I think CBS will come to their senses. But what people don’t realize is, we’re gonna do a 15th season.
“We’re doing a 10-show season, like all the other shows because of the strike, for the 14th season.”
“And we’ll do eight shows in the fall, the premier of our 15th season.
“My hope is CBS wakes up to the fact that we’re still winning the night on Friday night and performing on Paramount Plus.”
Despite Selleck’s explanation, CBS hasn’t officially announced that the final eight episodes make up a new series.
These instalments are still listed as part of season 14, according to Blue Bloods’ IMDB page, although the 79-year-old sees it very differently.
An official release date for episode 11 onwards hasn’t been revealed just yet but it is believed the show will return sometime in October.
This isn’t the first time that Selleck has said that he thinks the network is going to “come to their senses either”.
Talking to CBS News, he said: “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night.
“All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff.
“We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me [why it’s been cancelled]!”.
Blue Bloods continues on Fridays on NBC.
