Clint Eastwood made an unexpected appearance at one of the stops along Jane Goodall’s 90th birthday tour last month in what served as a super rare public sighting for the 93-year-old actor.

The Dirty Harry star, who will turn 94 on May 31, was filmed inside the Sunset Center in Carmel, Calif., as he attended the March 24 event, according to video footage obtained by The Daily Mail.

In the video, Eastwood wore soft navy pants and a gray jacket over a blue, brown and white flannel shirt. His white hair and beard were both grown out a bit longer than his typical display at red carpet events. The short video clip showed the Unforgiven actor and director hesitating as he prepared to make his way up a set of four steps next to the event space’s stage.

Additional photos obtained by Page Six showed the Academy Award-winning director attending a VIP reception after the event. In the photos, Eastwood was seated beside the renowned anthropologist as part of a cake and several glasses of water sat on a table in front of them. The two appeared to be chatting, though the topic of their conversation was unknown.

Goodall’s stop in Carmel was part of a Reasons for Hope tour she embarked upon before celebrating her 90th birthday on April 3. She shared stories from her lifetime working with chimpanzees and revealed the “reasons for hope” she has for the future, according to an event description on the Sunset Center’s website.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly actor hasn’t been seen out in public much in the last few years, though he has steadily continued his work in Hollywood. The former Carmel-by-the-Sea mayor directed and starred in his latest movie, Cry Macho, in 2021, and is currently working on the forthcoming Juror No. 2, a thriller that he is directing. A release date for his latest film has not yet been announced.
