Cole Hauser Hopes Rip Will Ride Again On ‘Yellowstone’: “Why Would We Stop A Good Thing?”

Yellowstone continues to provide just as much drama and cliffhangers off camera as it does with its scripted episodes. While the upcoming season 5B of the series has often been reported as the show’s final season, cast member Cole Hauser implied in a recent interview that he’s keen to make more episodes of the series under the Yellowstone name.

Speaking with Cigar Aficionado, Hauser was asked about the possibility of continuing his role as cowboy Rip Wheeler, to which he replied, “I don’t make the decisions, brother — I’m a hired gun. Would I like a spinoff? Yeah. It’s been a pleasure working with this cast, with Taylor Sheridan; why would we stop a good thing? Yeah, pen it and let’s do it.”

Hauser says he’s keen to keep Rip’s story going because, “I have the greatest office in the world. I’ve been saying that for seven years. I get to go out in nature, ride a horse, chase cows, cut rope, rein at times…it’s a very special role. At the same time too, I kind of kick myself, remind myself, this is about as good as it gets.”

Hauser’s enthusiasm seems to be shared, given the recent reports that he and co-star Kelly Reilly are rumored to be closing deals to remain on Yellowstone. According to industry newsletter Puck (via TVLine), the stars were rumored to be in talks of joining the Yellowstone spinoff The Madison, but it looks like they may instead be helming the main series amid Kevin Costner‘s dramatic exit.

Reilly stars on the series as John Dutton’s (Costner) daughter, Beth, who is married to rancher Rip Wheeler. Earlier this year, she explained, “I just care about finishing [Yellowstone] with as much care and as much passion and as much love as I can muster to put into it… I’m sort of prepping for that now, [and] that’s my tunnel-vision thing that I care about most.”

She then added, “And what goes on beyond that? There are discussions, you know. Don’t believe everything you read. It’s just nonsense… ”

Time will determine whether any of these rumors will become reality, but there sure seems like there’s plenty more of Rip and Beth’s story to tell. Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 premieres on Paramount Network Nov. 10.
