Donnie Wahlberg on why he feels fans deserve the right ending: Quotes about Blue Bloods
Wahlberg, who plays NYPD detective, Danny Reagan, knows that his time on the 14-season series must end the right way. Loyal fans who have tuned in since 2010, he feels, deserve proper closure for the characters and their storylines.
Wahlberg spoke about the potential renewal of the series prior to the announcement of season 14. “I love Blue Bloods, and I think if there weren’t a season 14, the loyal fans of the show would be very, very outraged. They’re part of the Reagan family. The audience is the extended family,” Wahlberg explained. “If the show were to go away without [the audience] having a proper sendoff … I think they would be mortified.”
Wahlberg has starred on the series from its very start in 2010 and, 293 episodes later, he is saying goodbye to Danny Reagan. Although a bit of a hothead, Danny is beloved and rooted for.
Why Tom Selleck believes it’s not over for the series
Police Commissioner Frank Reagan is portrayed by none other than Tom Selleck. The actor had a similar role on his series, Magnum, P.I., where he played private eye Thomas Magnum. The experienced actor, whose career began in the late 1960s, seems to think it may not be the end of Frank Reagan and Blue Bloods.
“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck shared in May 2024. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place.”
After 14 years on Blue Bloods, Selleck and his other castmates are not ready to say goodbye to their tight-knit Reagan family.
How Bridget Moynahan feels about saying goodbye to her “family”: Quotes about Blue Bloods
Erin Reagan is best known as the strong and independent Assistant District Attorney, though actress Bridget Moynahan is feeling emotional about saying goodbye.
“We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew… We’ve been through it all with each other,” Moynahan shared. In a 2021 interview, she shared about how she feels to be a part of such a great series. “We know how lucky we are to be on this show. It doesn’t come around that often.”
Len Cariou talks about his favorite moments on set
Affectionately known as Pop, Henry Reagan was the former police commissioner on Blue Bloods. The actor behind him, Len Cariou, who is always present at family dinners and for a few of the other storylines, shared his favorite memories from set.
“One I remember, when Sami Gayle [who plays his granddaughter, Nicky] and I did the duet from Annie, which was great fun.” Cariou said that he also really enjoys filming the famous dinner scenes, which take place in every episode.
Cariou added of those sequences, “When we filmed the pilot, it was the very first scene that we did, and I said to Leonard Goldberg, our founding exec producer, ‘Why are we doing this first? We hardly know one another.’ He said, ‘Well, I want there to be one of these scenes in every episode… Let’s see if it works.’ He came back the next day and said, ‘It works like gangbusters.’”
Blue Bloods stars share about their final day of filming
While the cast may not be ready for the series to come to an end, they have certainly expressed their gratitude for the show. Wahlberg shared about his final day of filming, explaining he is incredibly grateful.
“Not sure I have the words to describe how I feel about today, or the last 14 years on this special Blue Bloods journey, but I do know how incredibly thankful I am for every moment of it,” Wahlberg shared.
Marisa Ramirez, who portrays Danny’s partner, Detective Baez, expressed her sadness for the end of the series in a post shared to Instagram. “Last day of Blue Bloods! I don’t have the words yet to express my joy or my sadness, but at least I have a homemade sticker shield from [my daughter] Violet to replace the one I had to give back to props today.”
