Fact Check: Reports Of Stallone Quitting ‘Woke’ De Niro’s Project Stem From Satire

There is no evidence that American actor Sylvester Stallone turned down a project with actor Robert De Niro stating he is “woke” and “creepy” as suggested by online posts sharing versions of a headline from a satirical website.

Images in the posts, opens new tab included text such as, “Sylvester Stallone Drops Out of Major Project, Calling Robert De Niro ‘Too Woke and Creepy’,” and “Sylvester Stallone Declines To Work With Robert De Niro On A $1 Billion Project, ‘He’s A Woke Creep’.”

But there are no credible reports of any such statement by Stallone.

In December 2023, SpaceXMania, a satire and parody news, opens new tab website, published an article, opens new tab with the headline “’He’s Too Much Woke’: Sylvester Stallone Drops Out of $1 Billion Project With ‘Creepy’ Robert De Niro.”

Esspots, a subsidiary of SpaceXMania, opens new tab , also published a similar headline, opens new tab , “Breaking: Sylvester Stallone Withdraws from $1 Billion Project With ‘Creepy’ Robert De Niro” in December.

Stallone’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Reuters has previously addressed social media posts taking satire of cultural debate on “wokeness” out of context.
