Kristina Wagner explained that she loves having helped Felicia grow over the years, noting that her and her character have had similar growth in their lives.
It’s been a long time since General Hospital’s Felicia was a wide-eyed young woman infatuated with rocker Frisco Jones. But over the decades, she’s grown as a person and is now a patient advocate at the hospital. Her portrayer, Kristina Wagner, has also gone through quite a few trials and tribulations throughout her life. The actress took some time recently to reflect on the journey she and her character have taken, both on and off-screen, over the years.
She’s Very Different Now
Wagner told Remind Magazine that she’s very thankful for having been able to portray Felicia and illustrate her growth on GH for several decades. “That is my favorite part, the lessons that have been learned over the years, not just for me, but for Felicia,” she remarked.
She explained that early on, Felicia was “An out-of-control type of character that was always getting into trouble and looking to please her own needs.” But the present is very different. Felicia is much older and wiser, often advising her daughter, Maxie (Kirsten Storms), illustrating how she’s matured over the years.
She’s Resilient
“I think the most important thing for me has been the reinvention and transformation of my own life and of Felicia’s life,” Wagner stated. She further explained that she truly appreciates Felicia’s driven nature, adding, “I like that she doesn’t let people tell her what to do. She owns her mistakes, and I like that she’s a good person.”
Noting that the bad guys are often the ones more talked about in fan circles, and playing a baddie can be more entertaining, she credited executive producer Frank Valentini with working her hard, “Because it helps keep the show a little more in balance with all the other dysfunctions.” Ultimately, she explained, “I like that both Felicia and I have found resilience and reinvention, which was hard-earned.”
