General Hospital’s Finola Hughes Celebrates 40 Years As Anna

Happy Anniversary, Agent Devane!

40 years ago today, Finola Hughes made her General Hospital debut as Anna Devane. Here’s what the actress had to say about her daytime milestone.

Celebrate Good Times

April 10, 1985 was when Anna arrived in Port Charles with her sights set on her ex-husband, Robert (Tristan Rogers). Since then, Anna has rekindled her relationship with her daughter Robin (Kimberly McCullough), been in several supercouple-worthy relationships, and now doubles as the PCPD Commissioner and a somewhat guardian to her granddaughter.

Hughes took to Instagram to celebrate with a photo from her very first scenes on GH, along with the caption, “40 years ago today! What a brilliant ride, who would have thought? Love you guys so much.”

On-screen daughter McCullough commented, “ICON,” while co-star Laura Wright (Carly) wrote, “AMAZING!!!!!” Meanwhile, former GH co-star and current B&B star Rebecca Budig commented, “INCREDIBLE.”

A Lucky Lady

Hughes also recently spoke with Women’s World about her big anniversary. “We’re so lucky,” she said about herself and her co-stars. “We’re just in that very fortuitous position of being in the public’s lexicon. They keep coming back—and we’re here for it!”

Thr actress also shared what it was like being among GH vets for the show’s 62nd anniversary episode on April 1. “It’s like Thanksgiving with family…some of my best friends are people I met when I first came on the show,” she revealed. “Kristina and myself met almost 40 years ago, and she’s one of my closest friends and confidants,” Hughes said about Kristina Wagner, whose character Felicia is still good friends with Hughes’ Anna to this day.

Hughes also touched on both of her on-screen granddaughters – Braedyn Bruner and Brooklyn Rae Silzer. “I loved working with Brooklyn when she was growing up as the character, but she’s now working hard in nursing school, so we have Braedyn Bruner, and she’s just wonderful.”

Bruner recently took on the role of Emma after Silzer held the role off and on for 12 years.

As for Anna’s friendship/almost-romance with Jason (Steve Burton), Hughes quipped, “Their relationship is still very professional—if you can call a police commissioner fraternizing with a hitman professional!”
