The time has come in Home and Away for Tane to discover his fate in the case that has gripped Summer Bay (and us, the audience) for weeks now.

After being charged following his decision to snatch baby Maia and go on the run, the personal trainer will now learn the court’s verdict. And Tane (Ethan Browne) knows the odds aren’t looking great for him

“I think he’s accepted his fate,” Ethan, 32, tells TV WEEK. “He realises his mistake and understands that it could mean serious jail time, so he’s mentally preparing himself for the worst.

“He understands how the system works and believes everything doesn’t sit in his favour.”

Before the verdict is delivered, the outlook for Tane is made even worse when he is called to the stand to testify. In a callous move by his lawyer, Marshall (Nic English), Tane is forced to air all of his dirty laundry with his ex-wife, Felicity (Jacqui Purvis).

“He’s not happy about it at all,” Ethan says. “He feels it was a dirty move by Marshall – and by Felicity for telling him their private business.”

The only silver lining throughout this whole ordeal is Tane’s connection with Harper (Jessica Redmayne), with whom Ethan hints something deeper may be “naturally developing” after she pulls off a bold move when she’s called to testify in the trial.

“He finds comfort and support from Harper, and it helps him cope with the situation, so he leans in towards the friendship,” Ethan says.

Will the close friends become something more? Or will the cold metal bars of prison come between them?
