Logie-nominated Tristan Gorey, who plays the role of Dr Levi Fowler, has made a huge splash since arriving in Summer Bay.
Home and Away’s Tristan Gorey was quickly labelled “Aussie TV’s hottest doctor” when he landed in Summer Bay last year, but the actor insists he isn’t fazed by all the attention from the show’s loyal fan base.
Gorey, who plays the role of hunky cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Levi Fowler, has quickly become hot property on the soap opera and is nominated for Most Popular New Talent at this year’s Logie Awards.
But Gorey is taking it all in his stride.
“I don’t know how many TV doctors there are at the moment. So, maybe it’s just me. So I’m TV’s hottest doctor and TV’s not hottest doctor as well,” Gorey told 7NEWS.com.au.
After arriving in Summer Bay in October last year, Gorey has quickly risen up the ranks to become one of the show’s most popular stars.
But Gorey said his newfound stardom has been a long time in the making.
He studied at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), from which the likes of Hugh Jackm an and LisaMcCune also graduated, and previously featured in TV series Mystery Road: Origin, and The Heights.
“From the outside, you could look at it and see some kind of fast rise. But it doesn’t go without persistence and hard work,” Gorey said.
“I’ve been working at this for most of my 20s now. So, it has been a long road. But it’s a really special feeling to be here now.”
Gorey said he was proud of his work in Summer Bay and pleased with his storylines.
“I couldn’t be happier with the stories I’ve been dealt, the stories are so human,” he said.
“I’ve been able to relate to them in some capacity. At the end of the day, the writing team is so strong.”
He also heaped praise on co-star Emily Weir, with the pair friends both on and off-screen.
“I really love working with Emily Weir. I consider her a close friend. We’re always asking each other questions about philosophy, I’m really lucky to be working with her,” he said.
He said he had looked to his own family for inspiration for the role.
“My cousin is actually a neurosurgeon. So in the brief Christmas conversation, I was able to absorb his very calm persona. He is very (even) tempered person,” Gorey said.
“He always seems to be calm and in control. So I brought a bit of that to Levi.”
The hard work has paid off and last month Gorey was named as a Logie nominee for Best New Talent.
“It’s some tough competition,” he said.
“I’m really surprised and honoured to be amongst those other nominees — hopefully I can bring it back for Home and Away,” he said.
