The Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 finale ends with a major fight scene, which may have resulted in the death of an original character. Ever since the season 1 capper introduced the mystery of Gold Star, the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) has been trying to crack the case. They have followed smaller leads, as well as big ones. Unfortunately, the matter has proven to be far more complicated than any of them have ever anticipated. What makes things worse is the threat of Elias Voit going free simply because he has first-hand knowledge of the matter.
All the clues about Gold Star lead to Doug Bailey’s brother, Pete Bailey. Apparently, the late FBI Deputy Director’s brother is a major conspiracy theorist. The older Bailey tried to save him, but he wouldn’t budge. Voit uses this to manipulate Pete into believing that Prentiss and the BAU are to blame for his brother’s death. Luckily, the profilers can find a way to convince Pete and his associate, Jade Waters to not push through with their revenge. However, solving the Gold Star case isn’t exactly the end of the Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 finale.
Voit’s Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 Finale Fate Explained
Sicarius May Finally Be Dead
The BAU is forced to rely on his help one more time as they race against time to save Prentiss. In exchange for his information, however, Sicarius would have been released to the general population in prison — an ask that seems oddly suspicious, considering his penchant for being alone. Despite that, the profilers don’t have time to mull over the matter. They rescue Prentiss, and the serial killer gets what he wants, but the story doesn’t end there.
In the final scene of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2, Voit is attacked by two fellow prisoners and gets stabbed repeatedly. The show has never shown Sicarius’ aggressor, but it seems like they were sent to find and attack him. Somehow, it’s reminiscent of Spencer Reid’s stint in prison, only this time, the victim is rightfully in the penitentiary for multiple crimes.
Is Voit Really Dead In The Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 Finale?
Voit Getting Attacked Could Be Another Ruse
Before the attack can finish, Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 ends, with the screen fading to black. Given this, one cannot be sure that he is dead. That being said, there are clues in the finale that could reveal what happened to Sicarius. For starters, Voit’s out-of-character request to be transferred to the general population can be an indication that the attack is a red herring. The Paramount+ show doesn’t reveal anything about the inmates who ambushed him, but it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that he staged the whole commotion as part of his plan to escape.
Secondly, before the aforementioned scene even happens, it is confirmed that Dave Rossi is confirmed to still be haunted by Voight. As Prentiss arrives at Penelope Garcia’s post-case house party, he sees Sicarius lingering in the door just before she closes it. This hints that the most veteran BAU member will still be struggling with the issue that plagued him throughout Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2. For context, the Paramount+ revival is already confirmed to return for a third season, although it’s still uncertain when it will premiere on the platform.
How Voit’s Fate Impacts Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 3
The BAU Will Continue To Be Terrorized By Voit
While there isn’t a clear set-up for the profilers’ next case like how the show introduced the concept of Gold Star, this could be a jumping point for their next story. Regardless of what happens to Voit, his fate could still shape the future of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 3. If he’s dead, then the profilers are compelled to investigate it. If Paramount+ wants a more complicated storyline, the murder can be linked back to Rossi as a new BAU crisis. In any case, this won’t be the first time a profiler has been framed for a crime.
While the profilers were able to catch him and end his reign as Sicarius, he pretty much ran laps on them throughout Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2.
On the flip side, if Voit isn’t dead, then he can continue to terrorize the BAU in new ways. While the profilers were able to catch him and end his reign as Sicarius, he pretty much ran laps on them throughout Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2. Every time they thought that they finally figured him out, he continued to stay several steps ahead of them until the very end. Assuming that the attack on him is fake, then Prentiss, Rossi, and the rest should get ready for more shenanigans against them.
