Things got heated during Awhina and Adrian’s friends and family meet-up
Awhina’s sister Cleo from Married At First Sight Australia has spoken out following that explosive lunch date with Adrian and his family.
During the family and friends lunch, Adrian’s two sisters and friend Jasmine threw major shade at Awhina while criticising her parenting.
Awhina’s twin sister Cleo finally arrived and came to her defence, but Cleo says that it was actually “worse” than what viewers saw, and a lot of the conversation was cut from the episode which recently aired on E4.
“I think it was worse. I think it was much worse,” she said while speaking on Megan Pustetto’s So Dramatic! podcast.
“They didn’t air a lot of what they were saying to my sister before I started jumping in.”
Cleo claims that Adrian’s sisters and friend had been ganging up on her sister a lot longer before she walked into the room and that they had been “attacking her far worse than what was shown.”
“When I walked in there, I could see that my sister looked completely distraught from the minute I walked through there,” she explained.
She added that it was “unfair” and “upsetting” that she wasn’t allowed to enter the room straight away, which meant that the “pack” had more time to attack Awhina, who had no one on her side.
“I arrived in Sydney the night before. I was ready by 5am. I was with them early hours. I could have been there first. I could have been there for her,” she said.
“I hadn’t spoken to her all morning as well, so it was hard for me to go in there and see that her eyes were puffy. I know my sister. I could tell she’d been crying.
“Then straight away when I mentioned it and they dismissed me, I knew straight away what they were trying to do.”
During the conversation, Adrian’s friend and family made multiple digs at Awhina, with one of the sisters saying that you “can’t polish a turd” while the other added: “You can put a ribbon on a garbage bin, but it’s still trash.”
Following the episode, fans headed to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their outrage at the conversation.
“Adrian’s sisters walking in and going straight in on the attack on Awhina is not okay! Hope they are embarrassed with their behaviour !” one wrote.
“Wow… can’t believe how Adrian’s sisters treated Awhina and Cleo and all Adrian does is smirk… so grotesque!” another said.
Adrian’s friend Jasmine has since issued an apology to Awhina, within which she revealed that she is no longer friends with Adrian.
In a lengthy Instagram statement on 23rd February, she said: “Okay let’s talk. Over the next couple of nights you are going to watch me (regretfully) defend Adrian in MAFS. I take full responsibility for my actions and the things I say during that interaction. It is not at all the best version of myself and I have since reached out to Awhina and Cleo to apologise.
“As you all know, Adrian and I are no longer friends. Watching Adrian argue with Awhina is like having Deja Vu. But during the time this was filmed (6 months ago), I was still very much so Adrian’s best friend. I only knew of his (warped) version of reality. Not Awhina’s. I can be a reactive person and will always come to my friends’ defence in any situation which is what you will see unfold.
She continued: “Now being on the outside looking in, I can understand exactly how and why Awhina had those feelings towards Adrian. The manipulation tactics are copy and past. Hence why I ended the friendship and Sweet Sundayz [her Instagram collaboration with Adrian] at the end of last year.
“This is not at all an excuse. I would just like to speak my truth before the ep goes live. I wish I sympathised with Awhina more, I wish my rose coloured glasses weren’t on and I am very glad Adrian no long has a chapter in my life. Awhina and Cleo, again, I am sorry for the things I say and Awhina, you have my support in this all.”
