Jelly Roll Played Himself In Tulsa King Season 2
In Tulsa King season 2, episode 2, Jelly Roll made a cameo as himself. Jelly Roll stopped by at the Even Higher Plane, Bodhi’s weed dispensary, and got to meet several members of the gang, including Dwight himself. Dwight didn’t actually recognize Jelly Roll, even referring to him as “Jellyfish,” and the country rapper played along to convince Dwight that he was actually a janitor. It was a fun, playful moment, and it led directly into Jelly Roll singing one of his signature songs.
Jelly Roll Sang His Song “I Am Not Okay” In The Even Higher Plane
One of the improvements Bodhi made for the Even Higher Plane, along with introducing new products and a robot, was to install a recording booth in the dispensary. Jelly Roll made use of the booth in Tulsa King, and he sang his hit single, “I Am Not Okay,” on camera. Jelly Roll’s song also paid off his joke with Dwight, as the gangster realized that he wasn’t actually a janitor. That wasn’t the only Jelly Roll song to make an appearance in Tulsa King season 2, though.
Jelly Roll’s “Get By” Was Used To Promote Tulsa King Season 2
Before Tulsa King season 2 was even released, Jelly Roll had a role to play. Jelly Roll’s other hit song, “Get By,” was used in the trailer for Tulsa King season 2 and in other material to promote the show. “Get By” was a particularly fitting song for Tulsa King season 2, given its lyrics and tone. Jelly Roll’s song mentions things like drinking, smoking and one line in particular mentions “If you’d seen all the hell I’ve seen, it’d make your stomach turn,” which seems to match Dwight’s backstory quite well.
Jelly Roll’s cameo in Tulsa King season 2 was a great moment for the show, and his music fits perfectly with the tone of the show. Whether it’s the high-energy of “Get By” or the somber tone of “I Am Not Okay,” which perfectly mirrors the troubles Dwight is dealing with, from his court case to the looming threat of Cal Thresher and Bill Bevilaqua, Jelly Roll’s songs mesh with Tulsa King tremendously well. Jelly Roll was a welcome cameo, and Tulsa King season 2 surely has more surprises in store for the future.
