The role of Batman is a coveted position in the film industry, as it has the potential to either make or break an actor’s career in the long run. Many stars have wanted to donn the cowl, even Clint Eastwood. But Josh Brolin, before Ben Affleck became the face of the superhero in the DCEU, was the central consideration for the role.

Alas, we only got to see Batfleck in action in the now-dismantled franchise. Still, the star has hope, as well as a vision for the caped crusader if he ever gets the chance to play him on the big screen. More specifically, he has an idea of what he will do if the new DCU decides to bring the Batman Beyond storyline to life with an old and battered Bruce Banner at the center.

Josh Brolin Is Interested In Playing Bruce Wayne In A Batman Beyond Film In The DCU

When it comes to being a part of blockbuster comic book films, Josh Brolin can be considered a seasoned veteran of this genre. Playing the antagonistic role of Cable in Deadpool 2 and Thanos in the MCU, the star has his fair share of success with superheroes in the industry, especially with the characters from Marvel Comics.

But he isn’t opposed to being a part of DC in the future, which is only bolstered by the fact that he already has a vision for Batman.

In a past interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Sicario star talked about the time he and Ben Affleck were being considered for the role of Batman, and Affleck bagged the role. While he may have been OK with the decision, he said that he would like to adapt the Batman Beyond storyline that focuses on a Bruce Wayne brought down by age.

He said that if it had been up to him, he would’ve brought a very run-down and slightly helpless version of the greatest detective in comics to the big screen as it could’ve made or broken the character for the masses. He said:

“Something that is set up to not work at all, or to work flyingly — I like those odds, like playing with those odds. I’m like, ‘Am I the guy who’s gonna make it all fail?’ It would have been the older, more raspy, for lack of a better word, Honestly, that would have been a fun deal, and maybe I’ll do it when I’m 80.”

This storyline isn’t the first time the concept of a battered Batman was conceptualized, Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood had also tried to bring this version of the character to life, something that never became reality.

What Is The Batman Beyond Storyline?

While everyone has seen the representation of Bruce Wayne in popular media, not many know the greatness that a Batman Beyond storyline could bring to the table.

This story was also adapted into an animated series in 1999 and followed the story of a teenager named Terry McGinnis, who is stricken with grief and anger after his father’s death. In that quest for revenge, tries to seek out Batman who operated as a vigilante in the Gotham of the past. Once the now old and desolate Bruce Wayne notices just how much Terry reminded him of his past self, he takes him under his wing to teach him how to fight for justice and not for vengeance.
