Kennedy Davenport Reveals She Was Dropped From All Stars 9 cast

The legendary queen alleged that she was an “alternate” to compete on All Stars 9 before being cast on Canada vs. the World season 2.

It’s giving the sequel to “F*ck my drag, right?”

Season 15 star Plasma and All Stars 3 runner-up Kennedy Davenport — who was recently announced as a competitor in the second season of Canada’s Drag Race: Canada vs the World — were the special guests at this Roscoe’s Tavern viewing party for episode 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 9. Naysha Lopez was absent this week, prompting cohosts Batty Davis and Kara Mel D’Ville to conduct the event.

While discussing how funny Vanessa Vanjie has been on All Stars 9, Batty asked Kennedy if she worked with Vanjie in the RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! residency set in Las Vegas. Kennedy explained that she didn’t work with Vanjie in Vegas, and continued her answer with a “fun fact.”

“I was an alternate for this,” Kennedy revealed while pointing to the TV.

A visibly shocked Plasma asked, “For this season right here?”

“I was,” Kennedy replied.

In the world of reality TV, an “alternate” is a contestant who stays on standby in case one of the cast members in the season gives up. This is a completely standard practice that happens across all reality shows. The surprising element here is that a queen who placed fourth in season 7 and finished as the runner-up of All Stars 3 was considered an “alternate” for All Stars 9.

Plasma joked, “And they said, ‘You know what? Send her up to Canada instead.'”

“Yeah, because they knew I was f*cking mad,” Kennedy quipped back. “They said, ‘Oh, you’re not gonna…’ I said, ‘Oh, I’m not gonna be on the show?’ [They said,] ‘We gonna go take you to Canada.’ Oh, I’m not doing Canada if… I need a guarantee. I need to be guaranteed. I’m not going through all this sh*t for you to tell me I’m a damn alternate just in case somebody drops out. This is some bullsh*t. But I was an alternate, yeah.”

Kennedy continued that statement saying that she’s excited to watch the All Stars 9 Rusical, which was a horror-themed production titled “Rosemarie’s Baby Shower: The Rusical.” When asked about who she’s rooting for in the competition, Kennedy replied:

“Roxxxy [Andrews]. I’m really enjoying everybody, but it’s hard to, like, separate everybody. Because ‘everybody’s doing so well,’ and ‘everybody’s doing so good.’ The judges are saying ‘all good things.'”

Kara commented, “Because it’s a charity season; they had to.”

Batty and Plasma then asked Kennedy what her approach would’ve been for the runway categories on All Stars 9.

“Well, if I had been there, they definitely would’ve had something negative to say. So… yeah.”

To be clear, Kennedy’s responses throughout this entire exchange sounded like lighthearted, funny shade. Though she did seem disappointed about being dropped from the cast, she didn’t come off as someone who’s literally angry or upset at the situation.

When the conversation moved to Kennedy’s experience in season 2 of Canada vs. the World, the legendary queen had nothing but praise for the cast and crew, noting that she was treated very well while filming.

The viewing party took a break for the cohosts and special guests to watch the All Stars 9 Rusical — which, again, had a horror theme and referenced iconic characters from the horror genre.

Batty, Kara, and Plasma seemed to enjoy the Rusical, but Kennedy (again, in a humorous way) was immediately plucked by the theme of the challenge.

“Girl, that was of the devil! I have nothing to do with it,” the All Stars 3 superstar said, which made everyone laugh. “I’m a believer in Jesus Christ. If it would have been me, I would’ve had a real problem doing this challenge.”

Batty replied, “That’s why you weren’t there and went to Canada.”

“Okay! That’s why they have me in an alternate, hun,” Kennedy jokingly agreed. “Very good!”

Out reached out to Kennedy Davenport asking if she had any further comments about being dropped of All Stars 9. A rep wrote back on Kennedy’s behalf:

“She feels that her comments at Roscoe’s were complete and has nothing further to elaborate on at this time. She is very excited to be part of the CVW2 cast and has no further comment at this time.”

Thankfully, Drag Race fans will soon be able to watch Kennedy compete again on Canada vs the World season 2, which premieres Friday, July 19 on WOW Presents Plus.

In order to watch the full Roscoe’s Tavern live-stream for episode 8 of All Stars 9, you can subscribe to the venue’s “VIP” membership on YouTube for $1.99 per month. Otherwise, a free version of the live-stream will likely be available on Monday, July 8.
