Horizon: An American Saga star Kevin Costner seems to be tired of answering questions about leaving Yellowstone.

In an interview with CBS Mornings on Thursday, Costner—who was a guest on the show to discuss Horizon—became annoyed by host Gayle King’s questions about his high-profile exit from Taylor Sheridan’s hit neo-Western series. Costner starred for five and a half seasons on Yellowstone from 2018 to 2023.

“[People] say because of Horizon, it caused problems for you on Yellowstone,” King said. “True fans of Yellowstone say they can’t imagine Yellowstone without you.”

After that, King asked about Costner’s professional relationship with Sheridan, who created the series.

“People say about the two of you, ‘Both big egos, both very powerful and both at the top of their game right now and maybe the two of you are playing a game of who’s [ego] is bigger,” King said. “Do you see it that way? Who’s [ego] is bigger, Kevin?”

“I don’t know … I love the show. I loved the show before anybody,” Costner responded. “Taylor and myself … the truth never changes. That love was really strong. The idea of going back, I would do that in a second if I felt it was something I could do [and] wanted to do. I would make it fit.”

Costner Told King That He Wasn’t Doing The Interview For ‘Therapy’

After asking Kevin Costner about his and Taylor Sheridan’s egos, Gail King continued asking the Horizon director and star about what led to his split from Yellowstone.

“The characterization of you isn’t necessarily flattering. It’s you’ve made demands [like] you want to have a certain schedule, you want to shoot at a certain time, you want certain money,” King said. “If it’s not that hard, why can’t the two of you be able to work it out?”

“It’s not therapy, Gail. We’re not going to discuss this on the show, really,” Costner shot back. “I mean, honestly, I’ve conducted my life in a pretty straightforward way. I’ve never missed any obligations in my entire career, so the idea [of returning] is wide open for me. It just happens to be, like, ‘Can I fall in love with the writing? Can I fall in love with the part that wants to go forward?’”

The first of four planned Horizon movies, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 chronicles the expansion of the American West before and after the Civil War. The first movie tells the story from the point of view of several people who are heading west to settle in a new town called Horizon.

Also starring Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 opens in theaters nationwide on Friday. Yellowstone will return without Costner for the second half of Season 5 in November.
