“We have a friendship. We don’t have a romance and we’ve not dated,” the “Yellowstone” star said.
Rumor has it that Kevin Costner sparked a romance with Jewel — but the Yellowstone star insists that the rumors aren’t true.
Costner shut down speculation about his potential romance with the “You Were Meant for Me” singer in an interview with The Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM.
“Jewel and I are friends,” he said. “We’ve never gone out, ever. She’s fantastic, she’s special, and I don’t want these rumors to ruin our friendship because that’s what we have. She’s special…. She’s everything you might think, but it just hasn’t happened.”
Costner went on to explain that he and Jewel were both guests on a getaway to businessman Richard Branson’s island after Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce from the Field of Dreams actor in 2023.
“Richard Branson had been asking me for years to come down to Necker Island and so I finally did — I’m divorced all of a sudden, I’m a single father,” he recalled. “I said ‘Well, I guess I’ll go down.’ I got on a plane with nine people. Jewel was one of them, Emma Watson was on there, and seven other people who weren’t celebrities. We were the only three celebrities on an island for three days down there and then we fly back.”
Costner confirmed that he enjoyed the time he spent with Jewel, but that their relationship was strictly platonic.
“She was somebody I just had some tremendous conversations with and along with Emma,” he said. “The rumor was, I went down on a private plane with her, I went back on a private plane — I was on with nine people.”
The actor said that he’s apprehensive about the media fixating on his friendship with Jewel.
“I don’t want the the press to ruin this for us because… I’ve had conversations with her text-wise and she’s so smart, and she’s been been through a lot herself and so we have a friendship,” he said. “We don’t have a romance, and we’ve not dated. She’s beautiful and smart enough for all those things — it just has never happened for us.”
