Kevin Costner Had Blunt Reaction When Asked About ‘Yellowstone’ Finale

“Yellowstone” fans finally got their wish. After months of silence, Kevin Costner has commented on his decision to leave the show before its final season came to an end.

Costner was undoubtedly the star of “Yellowstone.” His performance as John Dutton was so good that he won a Golden Globe in 2023. That being said, it was reported that he didn’t always see eye-to-eye with the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan. For whatever reason, he decided to leave the set and pursue other acting opportunities. Since there was still a story to tell, Sheridan continued the fifth season without Costner’s character. They decided to kill him off with a fake suicide.

Earlier this month, Daily Mail asked Costner about the “Yellowstone” finale. Let’s just say he’s not exactly itching to talk about the show.

“I’m not thinking about [the Yellowstone finale], I don’t think I’ve given it any thoughts,” Costner said. “We’ll just let it go.”

Costner was also asked if there was any tension between him and “Yellowstone” co-star Luke Grimes. There were rumors about him feuding with his onscreen son. However, he wasn’t in interested in addressing all that.

Grimes, meanwhile, told Men’s Health that he hasn’t had any contact with Costner since he left the show.

“No, I haven’t talked to him since,” Grimes said. “It’s not a case of any hard feelings or anything; it’s just, he’s Kevin Costner. [Laughs] He’s a big deal. I do have his phone number—I just don’t feel like it’s my place to reach out. He can reach out to me if he wants to.”

In that same interview with Men’s Health, Grimes revealed that most of the cast was shocked by Costner’s sudden departure. They figured he’d stay on the show until the final season wrapped up.

“None of us saw it coming the way it did, and obviously there was news about possible blowups behind the scenes or whatever,” Grimes continued. “But just like in life, man, these things happen, they happen fast, and they’re not predictable.”

Eventually, someone will tell the full story as to why Costner left “Yellowstone.” For now, it remains a mystery.
