The series finale aired on Dec. 16, and saw the Dutton family avenge Costner’s character John Dutton’s death

Kevin Costner isn’t giving much thought to Yellowstone’s shocking series finale.

Shortly after the Taylor Sheridan-led western drama aired its season finale on Dec. 16, the Yellowstone alum, 69, was seen enjoying a nighttime stroll in Aspen, Colorado.

Costner was fashioned in a black shirt under a black overcoat and khaki-colored pants. He accessorized his look with a matching black scarf and brown leather boots.

Outside of popular western wear establishment, Kemo Sabe, the actor addressed the shocking finale, telling The Daily Mail, “I’m not thinking about [the episode].”

“I don’t think I’ve given it any thoughts, we’ll just let it go,” he added.

After months of speculation, the Oscar winner confirmed that he would not be returning for the second half of season 5 in June 2024. He announced his exit on Instagram, referring to Yellowstone as the “beloved series” he holds dear.

His character, patriarch John Dutton, was eventually killed off in the premiere of season 5, part 2. In the series’ finale, his family members vowed to avenge his murder. Dutton’s daughter Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) delivered on her promise — to save the land and make those who killed her father pay.

In conversation with PEOPLE, Reilly, 47, opened up about the emotional process of filming the final season and revealed that the show’s cast had the specific intent to “lay it all out there” for remaining episodes.

“There were moments where we would all just look around and just appreciate the moment, the beautiful day or the situation that just happened … you would go, ‘Well, this might be the last time we get to do this.’ So there was a savoring,” she said in a November 2024 interview. “Certainly for me, and I really felt this with a lot of the cast members of wanting to lay it all out there this year.”

Reilly continued, “It was like, ‘Let’s just give it your whole heart and give these characters and the show the ending that they deserve.’ And the fans, because people have gone on such an adventure with us.”
