The Hollywood star left fans of the hit Western series devastated when he refused to complete season 5 of the show after checking out midway through and beginning work on his movie franchise Horizon: An American Saga.
When news broke that Season 5 Part B was on the way for Yellowstone fans quickly had their hopes for seeing a conclusion for Kevin’s character John Dutton when he swiftly told them he would not be back.
Now following on from the lacklustre performance of his movie project which has seen the release date for the second instalment pushed back sources claim Kevin wants to see Yellowstone and the already-released prequel spin-off shows 1883 and 1923 fail too.
An insider told Life & Style: “Kevin’s well aware the likes of Taylor Sheridan and other turncoats are probably chuckling over Horizon’s bad viewing numbers, and it’s only strengthened his bitterness and dislike toward them.
“It would give him a lot of quiet satisfaction seeing those guys fall flat on their faces for even attempting to breathe fresh life into the show he sees very much as his baby – not theirs.”
Taylor Sheridan has already announced plans to further expand his Yellowstone empire with new shows 1944 and The Madison which is confirmed to star Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell and Patrick J. Adams.
Viewers of 1923 which proved a huge hit are already eagerly awaiting the second season of that incarnation which stars Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and Brandon Sklenar telling the story of the early days of the Dutton Ranch.
However the source says that Kevin believes there will be no future for Yellowstone now he departed the show.
They added: “At the end of the day, Kevin thinks the Yellowstone bosses are running around like delusional headless chickens. His bottom line, however egotistical it may sound, is that without his genius – even on a consulting level – it’s not going to work.”
Kevin meanwhile is reportedly struggling financially after Horizon flopped and took a major loss. The four-film $100 million project has cost $38 million of his own money.
Now, Radar Online claims the film’s poor box office performance has allegedly put Costner’s Santa Barbara estate at risk and caused a delay in the planned sequels.
It has already been confirmed that Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 will no longer be premiering in theatres on August 16.
As of right now, it is unclear when or if the movie will be rescheduled for a theatrical release.
