Kevin Costner might be eyeing a final return to Yellowstone, sparking excitement among fans.
However, his comeback isn’t solely his decision to make.
Due to ongoing tensions, Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone, has finished the series’ final chapters without including Kevin’s iconic character, John Dutton.
Rumors had previously circulated that Kevin was ready to bid farewell to the popular TV western.
Despite this, the actor’s recent interest suggests he’s not ready to leave the rugged landscapes of Yellowstone just yet.
While waiting out the pause before Yellowstone’s last season, Kevin dove into his western film, Horizon: An American Saga.
Now, with Horizon about to hit screens this year, Kevin’s been hinting he’s keen to return to Yellowstone.
He’s supposedly said he’d like to at least make a cameo appearance in an episode, with a chance there could be more. But there is one major hiccup in his plans.
The main challenge might not be about Kevin at all but Taylor instead.
It’s said that Taylor finished writing season 5, leaving out the older John Dutton, Kevin’s character.
This is because Josh Lucas, who plays a younger John Dutton, has been confirmed to return in season 5.
They could use flashbacks to include John in the narrative despite Kevin not being there.
Taylor, a real powerhouse when it comes to his work, has a jam-packed project lineup that requires him to keep a tight schedule.
For Kevin to rejoin Yellowstone, Taylor would probably have to redo parts of the scripts that are already finished to bring back the family head.
If Kevin’s return is just for a quick cameo, it might be doable, but a larger role could cause significant issues.
Neither Kevin nor Taylor has spoken out about these latest rumors.
Production on part 2 of season 5 of Yellowstone is set to begin any day now, with a premiere scheduled for November 2024.
