Luke Grimes has officially spoken up, everyone! The actor recently talked with The Independent, where he let fans know his opinions on Kevin Costner’s apparent exit from Yellowstone as well as his thoughts on Horizon: An American Saga.
As an important note: Grimes plays Kayce Dutton on the hit Western series—the son of Costner’s character, John Dutton. So, it’s safe to say the cowboys worked quite closely together! Touching on Costner’s alleged disagreement with showrunner Taylor Sheridan, Grimes had this to say: “Whatever happened there is unfortunate if it’s changed anything about how the show was going to unfold.”
That’s something most Yellowstone fans would agree with!
Those invested in this months-long fiasco know that the latter half of Yellowstone season 5 was heavily delayed due to conflicts between Yellowstone’s filming schedule and production of Costner’s new movie franchise, Horizon: An American Saga.
Though, Grimes rounded up his thoughts with some words of support for the new films: “I know, [Costner] got busy with his movies that were like passion projects. At a certain point, you gotta do what you gotta do, man; you gotta do what you love.”
Alright, well that was pretty sweet! Good to know that there’s no bad blood between the two Dutton actors. Though, this news comes hot on the cowboy boots of Costner’s recent comments in which he hinted at coming back to Yellowstone. In an early April interview with Entertainment Tonight, Costner publicly addressed his future on Yellowstone for the first time.
“I’d like to be able to do it but we haven’t been able to… I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five,” he said. “So how it works out — I hope it does — but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it.”
As of right now, the Yellowstone series finale is slated for a November 2024 premiere—so fans might have to wait until then for any official confirmation.
