NCIS: Tony & Ziva’s new set image reveals the best look at Michael Weatherly’s return as Tony DiNozzo Jr. in the NCIS franchise. CBS is further expanding the NCIS universe. This time, however, instead of introducing new lead characters, it will rely on familiar faces, starting with Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ prequel series, NCIS: Origins. Besides that, Weatherly and Cote de Pablo are reuniting as NCIS’ most notable couple in their own offshoot, NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Production for the series is in full swing, with new behind-the-scenes content giving the public an idea of what to expect.
Taking to his official social media accounts, Weatherly shares new images of himself on the set of NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Check out the photos below:

The image Weatherly shares on Instagram shows a selfie of him during a break in NCIS: Tony & Ziva filming. Noticeably, Tony wears a bowtie, suggesting that he will be attending some kind of formal function.
Hi everyone… it seems there is a future crisis only 2 people can fix. Here’s one of them: #ncis:tony&ziva #ncisverse #savetheworld pic.twitter.com/OuhWv2hqpz

Meanwhile, the snap he shares on X is less clear, but it captures Tony’s overall get-up. Aside from his formal attire, NCIS: Tony & Ziva lead star is also seen wearing his gun holster.
Will Tony & Ziva Return To MCRT Before NCIS: Tony & Ziva?
NCIS Season 22 Can Set Up Tony & Ziva’s Spinoff
Weatherly already returned in NCIS season 21, reprising his procedural role as he joined his old team to celebrate the life and legacy of Ducky Mallard. A few seasons earlier, his on-screen partner, Ziva, popped back up in Washington DC to warn Gibbs about an unknown threat targeting her life. Unlike Tony’s, her comeback lasted for several episodes. Still, they haven’t shared the screen since de Pablo left the flagship in NCIS season 11, which makes NCIS: Tony & Ziva exciting for those who have been rooting for them.
There’s hope that both will find their way back to MCRT’s bullpen, however. NCIS: Tony & Ziva is set in Europe, so the chances of them finding their way back to their old haunt are very slim once the series starts. Coming back to their former office has some major benefits for both shows. For starters, it can drive up the nostalgia for the parent show, especially since it no longer has any original characters left. Meanwhile, NCIS can stage a backdoor pilot for NCIS: Tony & Ziva to ensure its established base knows about the offshoot.
In any case, there have been talks about NCIS season 22 being the launching pad for NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Nothing is confirmed currently, but it’s an indication that CBS and Paramount+ are working on making this quasi-crossover happen. Considering both Weatherly and de Pablo’s respective returns before, it shouldn’t be difficult to convince them to get on board.
