“Yellowstone” is one of the most popular shows on TV, but it seems like it’s been an eternity since new episodes aired. And the wait for the final episodes in Season 5, which has been announced as the last “Yellowstone” season, has felt interminable.
The sort-of good news is that the show has at long last started production in Montana on the second half of Season 5. The series is scheduled to return — finally — in November.
As to whether star Kevin Costner will return as John Dutton, well, that’s much less clear. Reports of disagreements over schedules and other issues have circulated, as Costner was also directing and starring in “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One,” an ambitious project that, so far, consists of two movies, the first opening on June 28, with “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter Two,” scheduled to open on Aug. 6.
It’s been reported that the majority of the rest of the cast will be back for the final “Yellowstone” episodes. In case you’ve stuck out back of the bunkhouse, and haven’t yet heard, “Yellowstone” is a contemporary Western that tells the story of the Duttons, a Montana ranching family, headed by patriarch John Dutton.
The rest of the cast includes Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton, Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton, Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, and Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater.
If you’re still catching up on the saga of the Dutton family and their various power struggles, the Paramount Network is airing a “Yellowstone” marathon over Father’s Day weekend. The episodes begin with Season 3, Episode 1, “You’re the Indian Now,” which airs at 8 p.m. PT Friday, June 14. Season 3 episodes continue through 11 p.m. PT Friday with Episode 4, “Going Back to Cali.”
The marathon picks up again with Season 3, Episode 5, “Cowboys and Dreamers,” at 9 a.m. PT Saturday, June 15, and continues through 11:30 p.m. PT Saturday, June 15, with Season 4, Episode 8, “No Kindness for the Coward.”
The marathon resume at 9 a.m. PT Sunday, June 16, with Season 4, Episode 9, “No Such Thing as Fair.” It continues on Sunday, and concludes at 8:53 p.m. PT with Season 5, Episode 8, “A Knife and No Coin.”
As for the rest of the story? Fans have to wait until November to see how it all turns out.
