NCIS star Michael Weatherly has teased that there is “unfinished” business with his character Tony DiNozzo.

The actor featured on the procedural drama for 13 years until he left in 2016, but has hinted that a return may be on the cards… if he gets his way, that is.

Responding to a fan on Twitter/X, Weatherly stated: “There will be more DiNozzo someday because he is the one character that felt unfinished… that’s my plan! We shall see…”

DiNozzo was famous for his relationship with Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) until she was seemingly killed by the season’s villain. DiNozzo learned that her child Tali was actually his as well, and elected to leave the team and focus on being a father.

At the time of his departure, Weatherly revealed that he’d started to consider leaving after de Pablo left the show.

He told TVInsider at the time: “Their great dynamic, the badinage and sparring and flirting between those two characters and how they would swing from siblings to near lovers and back to buddies, that was gone, and then I got to the point where I felt I’d stayed at the party for too long.

“I would look around the room and other people were really in sync and having fun. The show was a huge success, but I just suddenly realized that I probably had other things that I should be doing.”

Funnily enough, de Pablo returned to the show briefly a few years later when it was revealed that Ziva was still alive and had gone into hiding.

Perhaps that’s the “unfinished” business that Weatherly is now talking about?
