Winners’ for the Worst of Cinema 2023 at the Razzies

Actors Megan Fox and Sylvester Stallone were ‘winners’ at Saturday’s 44th annual Razzies Awards, which satirically honor the film industry’s worst performances and productions on the eve of the Oscars.

The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation, the organisers of the awards, singled out Fox as the worst actress of the year for her leading role in ‘Johnny & Clyde’, as well as for her supporting role in ‘Expendables’, a film in which Stallone’s supporting performance was also singled out.

The Razzies 2024 also took a swipe at films with little commercial traction such as ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’, which ‘won’ for worst film of the year, worst directing and worst screenplay, both by British filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield.

Meanwhile, Jon Voight, who rose to fame for ‘Midnight Cowboy’ back in 1969, won Worst Actor of the Year for his performance in ‘Mercy’, about a military doctor caught up in a manhunt at the hospital where she works.

Hollywood Screen Actors Guild president Fran Drescher bagged the redeemer award for “her brilliant leadership of the Screen Actors Guild during the prolonged strike of 2023, which ended successfully,” according to the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation.

Drescher was nominated for a version of ‘The Beautician and the Beast’ in 1998, so this honorary award exempts her from that distinctive ‘negative’.

Presented by the duo of Aaron Goldenberg and Jake Jonez, the satirical ceremony was held virtually a day before the 96th Oscars, where the film ‘Oppenheimer’ is the favourite with 13 nominations.
