Divina de Campo, who appeared on the first season of the hit BBC drag competition series, has unveiled details of her upcoming I Do Think show – which is to tour the UK in April and May.
The actor, singer and artist, who has regularly performed at venues throughout Manchester’s Gay Village over the last twenty years and has a mural of herself within the neighbourhood, will bring the ‘unapologetically true’ show to Fairfield Social Club on May 9.
I Do Think has been described as a show that explores ‘life’s highs, lows and everything in-between’ and will feature a ‘vibrant mix’ of comedy, musical numbers and storytelling.
Divina, who has previously toured the UK with shows including Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Spongebob: The Musical, told the M.E.N. of the new show: “I’m so excited about this new show! Over the past five years, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and I have some thoughts to share.
“After twenty years in drag and 40 trips around the sun, there are a few things I’ve learned about this rock we’re living on, hurtling through space. Expect comedy, singing, dancing, and – of course – a red wig!”
The show, which will also come to venues in the likes of Glasgow, Sheffield, Liverpool, Brighton and London, will see Divina share her ‘heartfelt discoveries with a heavy helping of humour’.
Speaking about returning to Fairfield Social Club, which is on Irk Street near Angel Meadows and Victoria Station, Divina said: “I’m especially thrilled to be back at Fairfield Social Club, where I previously performed and hosted as part of the queer film season by Scenes’ Dragged to the Movies. It’s such a fantastic space with an amazing vibe and the loveliest, friendliest staff.
“I moved to Manchester around 2013, but I’d been visiting and exploring it since the ’90s. It’s one of my favourite cities in the UK because the people are so open, friendly, and always up for a laugh!
“This is the city where I got to cut my teeth as a drag performer, and it’s where my ‘career’ really took off. Manchester welcomed me into its warm – albeit slightly soggy – bosom, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
