Morena Baccarin (Deadpool) is set to star in Sheriff Country, a spinoff of the popular CBS drama, Fire Country. The show is not set to debut until the 2025-26 television season, but per TVLine, it is casting some of its series regulars.
Thus far, Baccarin will reprise the role of Mickey Fox of the Edgewater County Sheriff’s Office, which she originated in Fire Country. W. Earl Brown (Deadwood) will play her father.
CBS is still casting the roles of Mickey Fox’s chief deputy and right-hand man as well as Mickey’s ex-husband, Travis. The series is also casting the role of a female deputy who holds Mickey in high esteem, but is also dating her ex, Travis. The character of Mickey Fox was first introduced in the Fire Country episode titled “Alert the Sheriff.”
Baccarin Talks Sheriff Country
In August 2024, Baccarin, per Collider, talked about her new series during a panel at Fan Expo Canada, stating she wasn’t sure where the story would head as, at that time, the pilot was still being written.
“I actually know absolutely nothing,” said the Gotham star at that time. “They’re working on the first episode (with the) staff in the writers’ room right now. You know the script for the first episode. I have a daughter, and I am enmeshed in this sort of, like drama, political drama that’s happening in the town, having to do with illegal marijuana growth, which is what my dad got arrested for,” she said.
The Fire Country Spinoff Was Announced Last Year
Sheriff Country was announced by CBS in early 2024 and was officially ordered to series for the 2025-26 season. CBS President and CEO George Cheeks said in a previous interview with Deadline that Sheriff Country could end up being one of several spinoffs of Fire Country.
“We are focused on mass-appeal franchises,” he said. “This season’s number one show was Fire Country, which completely lends itself to building out a whole new universe…It became very clear that not only was the show special, it really felt like this could be a great example of us building together a franchise from scratch. And so I’m like, ‘You guys, congratulations, you got your back nine. Now let’s start talking about ideas for new extensions.’ They’ve already come up with some great ones,” Cheeks said.
Fire Country was created by Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, and Max Thieriot and stars Thieriot, Kevin Alejandro, Jordan Calloway, Stephanie Arcila, Jules Latimer, Diane Farr, and Billy Burke.
Baccarin Joins the Cast of Masters of the Universe
Baccarin was also recently announced as joining the cast of Amazon’s live-action Masters of the Universe reboot. The Firefly star will play The Sorceress in the new film. The movie is based on the 1982 Mattel toy franchise that later spawned several animated series, comic books, video games, magazines, and two feature films.
The upcoming Masters of the Universe will star Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops. The movie is being directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee).
Masters of the Universe, from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel, will hit theaters on June 5, 2026. Sheriff Country is set to premiere on CBS in the 2025-26 TV season.
