Sly Documents Sylvester Stallone’s Unusual Career

Stallone began his career as an action movie star in Capone, Death Race 2000, and Cannonball! These were modest beginnings in the industry, and Stallone was an A-list actor during the 1970s. As the Sly trailer stated, Stallone was considered “uncastable” due to his unusual affect and style.

Stallone’s career pivoted dramatically with the Best Picture-winning movie Rocky. In addition to starring in the sports film, Stallone also co-wrote it, which was later nominated for Best Original Screenplay. After Rocky, Stallone directed franchise follow-ups Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, and Rocky Balboa, cementing his place not only as an action star but a talented filmmaker. Stallone has since carried many action franchises, including The Expendables.

Netflix’s Sly recounts Stallone’s career turning point with Rocky. Stallone, like Rocky Balboa himself, has risen to fame after being a film underdog, and by the looks of the Sly trailer, the documentary will align with this perspective. As one of the biggest stars in Hollywood today, Sylvester “Sly” Stallone has had an exciting career journey, and Sly will work to celebrate that.
