Sylvester Stallone now admits that how he attempted to end his relationship with his now-wife, Jennifer Flavin, was something only a “coward” would do.
The 78-year-old Rocky star made the bold confession in front of Flavin, 56, while appearing on Sean Hannity’s new talk show, Sean, airing on Fox Nation.
“Who FedExs a breakup letter?” Hannity, who turns 63 later this month, asked the couple as first transcribed by Page Six.
“A coward does,” Stallone replied.
The Tulsa King actor continued calling out his decision to mail her a breakup note when they were dating in 1994, “That’s the most insincere breakup you can get,” he said.
So why did he send her the letter? According to the filmmaker, it’s because he “didn’t want” to actually call it quits with Flavin and knew he wouldn’t be able to have the uncomfortable conversation in person.
“You can’t even say… you put it down in words ‘cause you don’t have the guts to do it face to face,” the Rambo alum criticized.
Stallone went on, explaining that he was “raised in an incredibly dysfunctional family” and that his “history with relationships is an abomination,” which ultimately led him to the crossroads in his relationship (but it also positively influenced his career, so he believes).
Despite the regrettable decision on Stallone’s part, the couple managed to work things out, and after 27 years of marriage and three kids–daughters Sophia, 28, Sistine, 26, and Scarlet, 22–they’re still deeply in love.
“I couldn’t live without her,” Stallone said of his wife. “I mean, she is my everything. My sun and my moon. Everything.”
