Taylor Sheridan’s New Western Can Be His Yellowstone Replacement (& Is More Exciting Than Spinoffs)

Yellowstone is ending, but Taylor Sheridan’s next project could be the perfect replacement for his Western franchise and its spinoffs. Yellowstone followed the story of the Dutton family and their control of the Yellowstone ranch, a large and widely coveted piece of land in Montana. Yellowstone’s many spinoffs, such as 1883 and 1923, explored how the family came to control the land and the challenges they faced trying to keep it safe from enemies through the decades.

The Yellowstone franchise has been a huge hit, spawning several projects that have also found success, including a few outside of the world of Yellowstone. Even with all the shows he’s produced and the success they’ve had, Sheridan still hasn’t found a replacement for Yellowstone. That could change with his next project. Based on the book by S.C. Gwynne, Sheridan’s adaptation of an incredible Comanche story could prove to be his next major franchise.

Taylor Sheridan’s Empire Of The Summer Moon Could Easily Be His New Yellowstone

Empire of the Summer Moon is set to be the basis of Sheridan’s next project, which will tell the story of the Comanche tribe’s struggle against Westward Expansion and white settlers. It is currently unknown what medium Sheridan’s adaptation will take, but it seems likely to be a show, as the story took place over four decades. Empire of the Summer Moon’s timeline would give Sheridan ample room to create multiple seasons, and the story would be big enough to rival Yellowstone’s.

Empire of the Summer Moon primarily follows Chief Quanah Parker as its main character, giving Sheridan an exciting new way to tackle the story. Many of his shows and movies, including Yellowstone, follow anti-heroes who have done terrible things in their pasts, which can make it difficult to empathize with them. Chief Quanah could be a breath of fresh air for Sheridan to focus on and allow him to tell a story about a good person fighting for his people and his ancestral land. Empire of the Summer Moon could not only replace Yellowstone but also be an even better option than more spinoffs.

Empire Of The Summer Moon Is More Exciting Than More Yellowstone Spinoffs

While Yellowstone has many interesting characters and features a rich story with an interesting world, the story of the Yellowstone Ranch has already been explored. While new characters are introduced with each installment, the audience already knows what their motivations are: keeping control of the Yellowstone Ranch. Empire of the Summer Moon and Chief Quanah offer a more exciting alternative. Adapting the story of the Comanche tribe would provide a new cast of characters for viewers to meet and a new world to explore beyond the Yellowstone Ranch.

Taylor Sheridan isn’t slowing down, despite his hit series Yellowstone coming to an end after five seasons. Without the Dutton family dynasty to focus on, he needs a new franchise to take their place. Empire of the Summer Moon could be the perfect candidate and give Sheridan a fresh way to depict key figures of the Old West.
