While many did not understand the need for a sequel, they learned soon after its release that the addition was very much worth it. Top Gun: Maverick was a masterpiece through and through, featured an exceptional cast, and gave a very good reason to come back. It was even nominated for six Oscars and won one.

While there is no denying that Top Gun: Maverick was an exceptional film, the support the film is suddenly getting from fans is quite surprising. It was recently reported by The Hollywood Handle that the film was released on May 27, 2022. Interestingly enough, fans flooded the comments of the post with only positive things to say about the project.
They commented that the film should not have worked, having been released more than three decades after the original. Despite the odds being stacked against it, the movie managed to make $1.496 billion worldwide on a budget of $170 million.

They talked about how well all of the actors performed in the film, paying special homage to Tom Cruise. They called it the best movie of 2022 and went so far as to ask for another sequel. It is safe to say that fans loved the movie to their very core.
