Hollywood icon Tom Cruise is back to doing what he does best – risking his life for our entertainment – as the actor takes to skies for the latest Mission: Impossible 8 stunt. As revealed in new images from the filming of the action movie sequel, the next Mission: Impossiblewill find Cruise hanging from an upside-down plane, seemingly with no parachute, as he once again fights to save the world. The images show Cruise holding on for dear life as the small biplane tips upside down and leaves the action superstar dangling. A second pilot can be seen sporting a greenscreen suit, which suggests that they will be digitally removed for the sequence and Ethan Hunt will find himself alone and wondering exactly how he got into another death-defying situation.

“When the plane flips upside down, Cruise – who did not appear to be wearing a parachute – is left hanging off it,” a source said via The Mirror. “The characters appeared to be filming a fight scene where they grapple with one another before the plane turns upside down. The pilot was dressed all in green, suggesting he will be removed from the scene and Cruise and Morales will be the only ones in the plane.”

Filming on the stunt took place in Oxfordshire, England, with Cruise joined by his M ission: Impossible – Dead Reckoningco-star Esai Morales, who will return in the eighth installment as the villainous Gabriel.

Mission: Impossible 8 Is Now Due to Land in Theaters in May 2025

Released in July last year, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning is directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen. The Mission: Impossible follow-up finds Tom Cruise back as Ethan Hunt, who this time must save the world from a rogue AI known as “The Entity.” You can check out the official synopsis for Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning below.

“Ethan Hunt and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: to track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.”

Plot details for Mission: Impossible 8 remain unknown at present, but considering that the seventh and eighth movies were initially intended to be a two-parter, we can no doubt expect the eighth outing to carry over a lot of the story elements from its predecessor. Thus, Mission: Impossible 8 is likely to find Ethan Hunt and his team once again doing battle with the AI enemy “The Entity,” with Hunt also facing off with Gabriel (Esai Morales), a terrorist with ties to Ethan Hunts’s past.

The rest of the cast will include Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Pom Klementieff as Paris, and Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs, as well as Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga, Rolf Saxon, Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Frederick Schmidt, Mark Gatiss, Charles Parnell, Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian, Tramell Tillman, and Stephen Oyoung.
