Tulsa King star Garrett Hedlund reveals how Mitch will play a much bigger role in season 2. Recently returning to Paramount+, season 2 of the hit crime drama picks up after the shocking Tulsa King season 1 finale that saw Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight arrested during the opening of the new casino he co-owns with Mitch. With season 2, episode 1 “Back in the Saddle” making its debut on September 15, the remaining episodes are expected to drop weekly until November 17.
Speaking with Screen Rant following Tulsa King season 2’s recent premiere, Hedlund explains how Dwight’s business partner Mitch plays a much more significant role in determining the direction of his criminal empire. While much of season 1 had focused on Dwight establishing his presence in Tulsa, season 2 picks up after his empire is up and running. With their trust in one another now firmly established, Hedlund says Mitch has a much bigger part in the unfolding drama. Check out his comments below:
Yeah, it was a little different this year. I mean, in a good way. Last season, Mitch and Dwight’s characters had conversations and involvements together that were very singular, very mano a mano. They’re at the bar having an end-of-the-day discussion, or trying to configure how they were going to go about this next mission and what their obstacles were going to be and how to overcome them.
For this one, Mitch is much more involved because he’s a much bigger part of this empire. Now that the empire has been established, he’s a part of it; he’s responsible for it. And so now it’s much more of an all-for-one, one-for-all kind of journey for all of them, which I think is enjoyable to watch. They’re all in it together. Whereas in the first season, they were trying to figure out if they could still trust everyone.
What Mitch’s Greater Influence Means For Tulsa King Season 2
The Show Could Be Setting Old And New Associates On A Collision Course
As an ex-convict, Mitch’s criminal history provided an instant bond with Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi during Tulsa King season 1. Essentially exiled from New York and instructed to set up operations in a city that seemed vastly foreign from the world he once knew, Dwight’s dealings with Mitch were the first truly familiar ground he was able to establish in his new hometown.
However, as the show progressed, Dwight was also able to attract a few more familiar faces to his rag-tag Mafia family. After convincing former Invernizzi soldier Armand (Max Casella) to join his cause, he eventually lured his fellow New York-based Capo, Dennis “Goodie” Carangi (Chris Caldovino) away from his former post.
With Tulsa King season 2 episode 1 already showing the gang’s mixed reception to Goodie placing himself in charge during Dwight’s arrest, Mitch’s increasing influence may eventually set him on a collision course with Dwight’s more experienced Mafioso associate. Mitch already appears to exert considerable influence over Dwight’s decisions, including hiring his cousin, and season 2 could potentially put Dwight’s old and new friends in direct competition with one another.
Our Take On Tulsa King’s Growing Manfredi Family
Dwight’s New Crime Family Breaks All The Rules
With Dwight forced to establish himself in Oklahoma with little to no assistance from his original crime family, the crew he put together in season 1 was a vast departure from the mafia crews he once helped lead in New York. Yet, despite their flaws and unconventional natures, Dwight’s new crime family looks set to become a powerful force in his new hometown.
However, the unlikely group of aspiring and seasoned criminals that comprise Dwight’s new Manfredi family may now have to contend with the cracks that naturally arise as people begin jockeying for position throughout Tulsa King season 2.
