The Deadpool actor, 48, and his missus Blake Lively, 37, were soaking in the starry vibes of the ‘SNL50: The Anniversary Special’, celebrating a whopping five decades of Saturday Night Live chuckles. As part of a sketch, comedy gold ensued when Ryan got up and quipped “I have a question.”
Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler bit back with a playful “Oh Ryan Reynolds, how’s it going? ” With typical Ryan panache and not missing a beat while tackling the pesky lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, he hit ’em with “Great – why, what have you heard? “.
The crowd loved it, but Yellowstone’s own legend Kevin Costner, sitting pretty behind them, gave an expression that had folks splitting their sides online. The 70-year-old didn’t seem to fancy the lighthearted jab at the hefty accusations swirling around them, including sexual harassment and mudslinging.
Socials lit up faster than a bonfire night as users didn’t hold back sharing their two cents. One mentioned: “The rest of us are Kevin Costner. Blake and Ryan have some explaining to do. Also, what they did to Justin Baldoni is not funny at all. #SNL50.”, reports the Mirror.
Another chimed in with “No mercy for Ryan Reynolds from Kevin Costner at #SNL50.” And for sure, one eagle-eyed fan noted: “Did I see Kevin Costner sitting next to here [sic]? He didn’t look too impressed when Ryan Reynolds made his s*** joke.”
Blake and Justin are embroiled in a fierce legal battle concerning the movie adaptation of the bestseller ‘It Ends With Us’. Last year, Blake took legal action against her co-star, slapping him with allegations of sexual harassment that purportedly led to “severe emotional distress.”
To add fuel to the fire, she claims he’s waged a campaign to “destroy” her good name in what she deems a smear attempt. In a firm response, Justin has rejected the accusations, hitting back with a whopping £321 million ($400m) countersuit against both Blake and her husband, actor Ryan.
He claims they’re out to tarnish his reputation and torpedo his career prospects. The fallout has had quite an impact—leading Colleen Hoover, the author behind the novel, to scrub both Blake and Justin from her Instagram presence.
Allegedly, Blake tried to leverage her A-list influence to sway the author to her corner. After the original lawsuit, Colleen did voice support for Blake, but since December, her Instagram’s been a ghost town where either actor is concerned.
Documents associated with Justin’s legal fight suggest Colleen had a much friendlier rapport with him in the past, reportedly assuring him, “You are the right person to make this movie.”
